Regarding any website such as Seals using the guise of Bitcoins for funding illegal activities, this is yet another warning. It's pretty clear people don't give a shit about going to jail. The Feds have said time and again, don't do this. When you give them the finger, it makes the ultimate punishment infinitely worse. And to tweet about it continually is just really bizarre. You are basically saying "come get me, and I will take you to the Supreme Court" which never, ever works. Especially since there is a law that has never been challenged. Basically you go to trial, lose, bankrupt yourself and server 3 years in prison.

This is not the Civil Right Act.

Exactly. It has very little to do with what you and your shithead attorney think the law is but rather what the government thinks the law is. Even if the law is on your side, you still lose if the government decides to make an example out of you.

The guy over at Silk Road was exceptionally stupid, but all these guys have it so justified in their heads they are doing nothing wrong.

Its starting to seem like the Fed's DID NOT catch the real DPR.

    from reddit.

This is not a conspiracy theory, this is something I know for fact from first hand dealings with both DPR and Inigo. Unless someone can tell me why I need to keep my mouth shut, I can type out the story.

Edit: I'm not attention whoring, but it seems like whoever DPR is wants people to think the real DPR was arrested. I just want to give him a chance before I tell the story if this is true.

Edit 2: Give me some time to type it out before you call me a fag guys

    Edit 3

Let me start this off by saying I am one of the most hated people on SR. If you know who I am, please keep it to yourself. I don’t want this to be about that. Feel free to check out any claims in my story, but please don’t turn this into drama.

Several months ago I was approached in the SR forums by a poster named “JP.” JP was a hero member with several hundred posts and a good standing in the SR community. JP asked me if I wanted to buy some medication he had saved up; since JP was a long time SR member, I gave him my drop address and we worked out a deal. 2 days later I had an express package from “JP.” I specifically remember being post marked San Francisco because my wife commented on it and told me she had an uncle who lived in Daly city and loved visiting as a kid.

I sold all the medication and agreed to transfer “jp” his half off site. JP wanted everything done off site, and would only talk to me in encrypted messages. He wanted me to transfer the funds out of SR, into my wallet, and then then to him. Immediately after sending a large amount of BTC to my Mt Gox wallet, it was locked from sending out any amount of BTC. Informing JP of this he flew into a rage and demanded I quit lying, called me a scammer, etc etc. Told me he needed to get his order in ASAP because he was out of a certain drug, and his body could not handle being without. I told him he had no choice but to wait for some orders to finalize before I could send him any funds. He told me to “go fuck myself” and told me he would “get the coins one way or another.”

The next morning I woke up to log into my account and couldn’t. I panicked that perhaps someone had phished my information, and just freaked the fuck out because I had about $1000 in funds which were to be released to me on that day sitting in escrow. I messaged support and 30 minutes later “vendor support” messaged me back informing me I had been banned for “screwing over a valued member of the community” and that I was “permanently banned” for my actions. When I asked about the funds that were waiting to be released to me, I was told that “they were to be used to rebuild the community for the damages I had done to it.”

At this point I just to inform everyone I owed JP about $900.

I had about $400 in orders people had FE’d to me, which I didn’t send because I was a pissed off idiot. I had access to my forums account lost, and I found someone had posted a bunch of shit from it, just general bullshit to make people hate me. Whats strange about this, is when a vendor is suspended, they only loose the vendor accout privilges, but orders he sent out still stay in escrow, and he can log in and out of the account to dispute transactions, and even still get paid for orders he sent out. No me, I had no access whatsoever.

I went to the forums and found a post asking “where is vendor x.” Right off the bat a forum member named “self sovereignty” retold the story between me and JP in very specific detail. I jumped in and asked SS, “Who the fuck are you? You don’t know the true story” in which SS replied back very hateful that “jp was my best friend” and a bunch of other very hateful shit.

If you have yet to make the link, JP=SS=inigo. Stop and think who gets a life time ban for scamming someone off site? Many vendors have screwed thousands, threated several, and yet they return over, and over just as long as the pay the $500. I later built up another vendor account, and SS unknowingly ordered from me. The order was sent to San Francisco. At that point I had known for sure my idea. I messaged SS and straight out asked him “are you inigo” and his reply was “you just made me lol, and I hate to lol.” I never mentioned it again.

Knowing what I knew, I took a great interest in what SS posted from that point on. He was, after all, a site admin. Watching the “dpr interview” yesterday, something hit me. When DPR was telling the story about the girl he had once loved with huge tits not working out, it was almost a word for word account of a long winded post SS had made several months ago. It actually made me laugh.

Another thing, right after the whole “servers down because of DDOS” thing, SS started talking about these very abstract ideas he was teaching himself about infinity and programming. If anyone remember a post very recently during the updates, DPR started talking about this same very abstract idea of “infinity and programming” and it hit me like a ton of fucking bricks. SS=inigo=DPR. I made a new forum account and messaged DPR saying “you were SS right? You should be more careful, talking about specific details like infinity and programming, someone like a vendor could link your accounts together, and since you make orders from vendors, this could not be good for you.” I was logged out of that throw away account, and upon trying to log back it, found it had been deleted. I switched over to my vendor account, and found a message from a person named “montecristo” which read, “you just made me lol all over my keyboard, and I hate to lol.” I took this as a threat from DPR that he knew who I was, and any fucking around would result in my vendor account going bye bye.

Now, here is where it gets really strange. I had a negative thread posted in the rumor mill, and 3 of the forum mods started to gang up on me. Suddenly, from out of no place, DPR posted, “mods, if you have time for this, you have time for busy work. Leave this vendor alone; keep your opinions off the moderator accounts, and out of the rumor mill. Don’t get caught up in these rumors.” DPR sent me a private message apologizing for his team and telling me it wouldn’t happen again, and told me, “if they gave me any trouble, to contact him.” Any request I had made to vendor support, was forwarded to DPR. In the “sent” box it would change from “vendor support” to Dread pirate Roberts.” Any message I ever sent to DPR was read in no less than 4 hours, and he always replied in a nice manner. He also reassured me I would not be banned for any claims that “I was a past vendor.” 3 days before DPR was arrested, I was banned by liberates for “being a past banned vendor.” My several messages to DPR were unread. I’m not pointing any fingers, but what the fuck man?

Take from this what you will. Believe me or don’t. I urge everyone to do a little detective work before the suddenly accuse me of making this up. You will find my story true.

Edit: point is DPR does not send people adderall because he really needs $$$. ownership went from the true dpr to inigo. Inigo must have been broke as fuck before being made new DPR.

    -------------------

This former seller claims that the DPR they arrested is not in fact the current Dread Pirate Roberts - but the original programmer behind the SR, and he has a very compelling story to back that up.

Federal drug charges for Bellevue man involved in 'Silk Road'
By Kristen Drew and Associated Press Published: Oct 3, 2013 at 4:48 PM PDT Last Updated: Oct 3, 2013 at 6:39 PM PDT

BELLEVUE, Wash. - A Bellevue man who sold drugs using an online black market known as Silk Road now faces federal drug charges, Homeland Security agents say.

According to court documents, 40-year-old Steven Sadler hid his identity using the profile "Nod," and used a fake name to purchase mailboxes at several UPS stores in Washington.

Sadler sent the drugs through the U.S. Mail, where a drug detection dog alerted authorities to an express mail package. Inside, Post Office inspectors found heroin hidden in a birthday card, and scented markers.

Investigators say they used a return address on some of the boxes to track down Sadler, and installed tracking devices on Sadler and his co-defendant's vehicles. During surveillance, the cars traveled to at least 38 Post Offices in the Seattle area.

Court documents show Silk Road sold 1.2 billion dollars worth of drugs and illegal services in about three years.

The Silk Road website protected users with an encryption technique called "onion routing," which is designed to make it "practically impossible to physically locate the computers hosting or accessing websites on the network," court papers said. One listing for heroin promised buyers "all rock, no powder, vacuum sealed and stealth shipping," and had a community forum below where one person commented, "Quality is superb."

"They were comfortable operating in that environment because they felt that they enjoyed complete anonymity," said Jan Fedarcyk, Former Assistant Director with the FBI.

Agents in Seattle eventually connected Silk Road to Sadler after they intercepted a package addressed to someone in Alaska. The recipient told agents where he purchased the drugs from "NOD" on Silk Road.

The FBI recently shutdown the Silk Road website after a two-year undercover operation, and also arrested Ross Ulbricht, the California man who operated the online black market. FBI agents found him in the science fiction section of a small branch of the San Francisco public library, chatting online.

His final mistake, according to the court papers, was ordering fake identification documents from a Silk Road vendor from Canada. One of the nine documents was a California driver's license with Ulbricht's photograph, birthdate but a different name. The package was intercepted at the border during a routine U.S. Customs search.

"Very sophisticated, very intellectual individual who took those skills and talents and developed an online website that marketed illegal goods, illegal services," FBI's Fedarcyk said.

As of July, there were nearly 1 million registered users of the site from the United States, Germany, Russia, Australia and elsewhere around the globe, the court papers said.

You do realize the Feds have like a 98% conviction rate?

The reason the Feds move so slow is because they have the resources to build such an overwhelming case, you simply are decimated when you go to trial.

I am sure this guy will go to trial with the defense of "free speech" or some bullshit argument like that. These fucking clowns are like the guys that don't pay taxes because they feel they are illegal based upon the Constitution. Then they serve three years and get their head right and conform.

I have been following this story with interest for sometime now and what has really amazed me is the fact that there has been no serious knock on effect for Mt Gox. I'm aware that there was some fluctuation but it seems to be quite steady at the $130 mark or so.

I would have expected an immediate crash in the bitcoin price but this has not happened and does not appear to be happening which i find quite strange.

Do you think bitcoin has now reached a level of stability that ensures huge crashes no longer happen and if so why ?

please correct me if I am wrong but I read somewhere that the German Govm't recognizes Bitcoins as a legit currency so that means that Bitcoins can be converted into German Marks/Euro's in Germany which makes it real money (yes I know there are no Marks atm but each member Country can opt out of the Euro if they want afaik)

Long story short - this guy is a second generation DPR and the original programer and owner of the site is likely still out there. I tend to believe this as a real possibility. As I said before - if im involved in serious shit and the feds show up at my door one day and I'm worth 7 figures I'm gone the next day. This guy wasn't smart enough to take the hint.

It read more like a "this deck is rigged" conspiracy thread from a 2+2 user with 1 post.

Makes no difference who recognizes what, you can turn BTC into any currency in the world. You just have to make sure you follow appropriate tax laws in your jurisdiction so you don't fuck yourself.
