Same time went into cooking it, taking your (special) order, ringing it up, preparing it, then all the cleaning.
Tip take out, about 1/2 of what you tip sit down service.
We're talking about someone dealing with you for 30 seconds vs an hour to sometimes two and you think it's just them bringing food to your table?

Tip someone half what you tip sit down service for 1/100th of the time spent on you?

here are some tipping scenarios for consideration, we know Druff's answer:

    would you tip:

    1. at the McDonalds drive thru or any standard fast food drive thru
    2. the bar owner that serves you a drink
    3. the shop owner that does the manicure or pedicure themselves

my answers: no,no,no and I generally tip servers 15-20%

My senior year in high school I worked in the front lot at Home Depot. It mostly consisted of checking receipts and fetching shit like 80lb concrete bags and roofing material and loading it into peoples cars.

They were extremely adamant about employees not accepting tips and you could be terminated for it. They kept a close eye on the few of us that worked out there.

I once loaded a palm tree for a chick that tried to tip me $80 and the cocksucker front end manager was watching me like a hawk. When I turned her down she said "how in the hell do you guys make any money?"

What are the legalities of employers doing this? I tried to tip a lady at a Target Starbucks the other day and she said she couldn't accept it. I said to just keep it and she said she would have to put it in her register if so.

That is all company policy, no legalities to worry about.

I had a job that we were not allowed to accept tips, but the patrons were extremely rich and as long as we kept it quiet every once in a while they would throw us something extra. They knew what the deal was, just slipped it to us when no one was looking.

But the employer made it clear that if you got caught taking a tip you were fired on the spot, because they paid us pretty well without the tips and didn't want a bunch of employees competing for tips and what not.

Did this make people start to expect tips and hold it against those that didn't give backdoor tips, or was this viewed as just gravy and nobody took it out on the non-tippers?

Because if you guys were making good money at a no-tip place and resented those who followed the rules and didn't tip, that's fucked up.

Lol, I hope you are not a repeat customer at any place if this is a way you operate. You will not be liked. Also, why not tip the owner, he is doing the same job his employee would do? Most likely, the owner is filling in for their employee on a break, or maybe actually working hard for their business. Do you want to re-define the service industry?
