I would not expect sophistication in such a new unregulated market. It didn't even spawn from a legitimate business. We have banks using much less sophisticated technology. Your expectations are too high. The world is full of idiots.
I dont believe we have banks using less sophisticated technology than them, elaborate on this? Beyond the crypto angle, this seems to be hobbiest level. Banks are PCI DSS compliant, and then some, that requires NIST established (iirc) minimums that are accepted as suitable industry-wide.

Changing a c-name in DNS and pointing to a landing page isnt sophisticated.

Adhering to the most basic tenets of disaster recovery and having a cold backup site? Not sophisticated, and profoundly negligent for an e-commerce site.

    The list is endless.

I'll tell you something tho.. you want to know the _one_ scenario where an e-commerce site goes legit dark?

    An intrusion.

Yep, it is a small oversight. The fact of the matter is mtgox has more or less held solid, far beyond other exchanges in volume and time. They have not been hacked AFAIK or lost anyone's btc. mtgox sucks ass because they don't know english for shit and you have to deal with all the US anti-laundering crap. It is ridiculous all the hoops an American has to go through to use things like mtgox etc, but thats not their fault. It is what they have to do to be legitimate.

A service's usage jumps exponentially in the matter of days during a DDOS and Sonatine proclaims they're incompetent because no one was tasked with creating a landing page! ROFL!!!

I dont believe we have banks using less sophisticated technology than them, elaborate on this? Beyond the crypto angle, this seems to be hobbiest level. Banks are PCI DSS compliant, and then some, that requires NIST established (iirc) minimums that are accepted as suitable industry-wide.

Banks have been using old IBM technology since they started using computers.. Maybe it has changed, but I'd be surprised. Mtgox has all sort of state of the art crap going on. Being compliant with standards != being more sophisticated. Another logic fail on failtine's part.

I thought it was DDOS.. now you are suggesting they were hacked !!!! OMG Why would logic lead you to this path, when we know they are under DDOS attacks ?

Wow yeah good point, Mt Gox could never be hacked, not with all that responsibility and sophistication.

Oh they could obviously be hacked. Thats not the point. The point is that you are suggesting someone found an exploit instead of just what most likely happened. And that is they are migrating something over DDOS issues. mtgox has ben trading large sums of money before this and has been the target of hackers for quite some time. A nice big juicy target. Now they're DDOSed and you are suggesting they were hacked. You just spew forth shit like you an expert. Sure they MIGHT have been hacked. Anything and everything on the internet may have been hacked. It doesn't take any sort of knowledge or expertise to make such statements.

I never said sophistication of software prevents hacks. Infact, it can work the opposite way. You're the one suggesting banks are more sophisticated, when reality is they just use old tech that has been tried and trusted in an industry who is going to stick with Cover Your Ass mode and pay IBM maintenance contracts until they retire.

-edit oh yea, you got me, after googling you found they had one account hacked in 2011. niiiiice find.

Oh but it is the point; you consistently have no idea what youre talking about beyond billing options for porn sites. Then you get your dusty asshole fucked to pieces and spend 30 minutes composing yet another revision of the revision of the revision of the original point that got you blasted silly.

Youre terrible at this, and youre even worse at adult conversations.

You want to lecture me? Hit me with the perils of getting your 4 wheeler stuck in the mud, or sneaking your sister across state lines to abort the fruits of your abuse. Then at least I can believe youre an authority on the subject and more than a lonely fuckup looking for the attention your drunken shithouse gomer of a dad squandered elsewhere.

What are you implying here? That statement reads to me something like this: "That football team is awesome because they use Riddell equipment" Do you see how ridiculous a statement like that is? There is no information that can be gathered from a statement like that other than the author hasn't a clue what he is talking about.

You are so pathetic. you can't even stick with the subject matter. I've heard a few 2nd hand stories about you... whining about losing $100 buyin at a poker game when you met up with people. Yet you act like you're some high-end consultant. It just doesn't make sense. You couldn't even beat poker. your analysis of poker was a complete wreck and was just an ABC book of badbeat stories.

Meh, I could go deeper and deeper, but I just don't care this much.. I'm not going to make you a part of every post I make on this site, becuase I am butthurt. You do that with me, because I got in your head, bro.

I should dig up a picture of Ryland's ex-gf and show people the quality of women you hit on..... snicker .. nah, not an angry fat bitter man. nah. no way.

Sorry for consistently showing you are wrong. Take it easy. If you are going to resort to just making up total lies about me, then I will not have a conversation with you. I guess this post is your idea of an "adult conversation" but it isn't mine.

He sees nothing but an opportunity to retool yet another waterhead abortion of an opinion until someone agrees with it, at which point he will claim thats what he was trying to say all along.

All we were doing is discussing "sophistication". That is not something you can really quantify. I never said it made anything better or worse. I said sophistication of software can cause it to be hacked as a counter example, so your attempt at an analogy is horrible. AFAIK banks use a lot of old IBM stuff on their backend. I don't know how that makes it more sophisticated, just more tried/trusted.

So am I wrong? Have banks largely migrated away from IBM ? Maybe they finally have... shrug. Funny, you agreed pretty much that banks aren't that "sophisticated".... yet like most, you just throw out some opinion with 0 specifics.

What was I implying? That the mtgox uses a wider array of technology etc than your typical bank does. This would make it more sophisticated I would think, but that doesn't equate with being better at any specific task.

edit - and by old ibm tech, I mean the codebase more than the actual hardware. The actual hardware might be some modernized version of old tech... or maybe banks have finally migrated away from IBM stuff. I dunno, I did develope software for banks years ago, but I am not going to claim to be up to date.
