I wasn't serious about the ski job being the reason he could afford the tickets. It was obvious it was a retirement-job-for-fun thing.
If you wanted to go to the World Series, today's game features the cheapest tickets you'll see. $500 for nosebleeds right now, and you can get a second row loge (2nd level) seat right behind home for $2k.
I've never paid $1k+ per ticket in my life for anything (except an airplane). Can't bring myself to do it. Probably would have if this were going to be the Dodgers' one fluke chance to make the World Series for years to come, but obviously this team is going to contend for awhile, especially while they can keep spending to fill in holes.
$600 in 2018 (when I last went) is like $800 today. I was willing to spend $800/each, but not much more than that -- and only for good seats. Nothing on the upper 2 levels, nothing in the bleachers, nothing too far down the line, and nothing under one of those annoying overhangs.
I guess the number of rich bandwagoning SoCal locals has exceeded the number of sellers. Though there's still a LOT of seats not yet purchased on the secondary market. Wonder if they'll just sit empty?
I wish I were closer so I had the option to do something like buy a panic-listed ticket 15 minutes before game time.
