may i just as a footnote add that in addition to CU, and around the same time, there was the conflation of unmitigated spending and bailouts which then awoke the politicians that they could use the Treasury and fed to buy us at what had been unprecedented levels. Later, when that wasn't enough, it became immigration, but that is for another lesson.
