Covid was just the Flu Virus, and like any other Virus could aggravate any underlying health conditions which happened to a few, and caused death

i'd just been hit by a car didn't wake up for a month when i learned COVID was happening, so was inpatient in a hospital then. Needless to say I could care less then about some flu virus, and being in a hospital at the time i got the Shot etc, had too then. You're partially correct, but also partially wrong.

Vaccinating does NOT stop COVID from spreading. You're correct about that. Many idiot libs still believe that we vaccinated ourselves out of the COVID crisis. Totally false. COVID mutated to become much milder, to where it became flu-like in danger. It turned out that the vaccine did not stop the spread -- it only suppressed some symptoms and prevented some death.

And that leads me to my next point. It turned out that the vaccine's main usefulness was preventing COVID from becoming deadly or near-deadly. That's why a similar vaccine for a cold would be useless, as colds don't become deadly anyway. This is also why the vax is still useful for those over 65 (since they can still die from COVID), whereas it is not useful for non-seniors, as COVID stopped killing middle-aged people since it mutated in early 2022.

There is definite data that the vaccine works to prevent death in old people, and that it worked in 2020-21 to prevent death in middle aged people. There is absolutely no question about this, when you look at the numbers. This is why death rates were substantially worse in red states once the vax was introduced (because many right wingers refused it), whereas death rates were actually slightly worse in blue states pre-vaccine (proving that all of the closures, masking, distancing, etc were useless!)

There is also some risk to the vaccine. The left tried to cover this up in 2021, but the risk was obvious to me, as it was a barely tested vaccine without any long-term testing. So it becomes a risk/reward situation. In 2021, the risk of the vaccine was less than the risk of COVID to me (then age 49), so I took the vax. Today, the risk of vax injury is worse than my risk of COVID (since it's so much milder), so I stopped taking it years ago. For my parents, who are over 80, the risk from the vax is FAR less than their risk of COVID.

The flu shot is far less risky (it has been studied and tested for a long time). I'm actually going to get one this year. I hadn't gotten one ever, except in 2010 because I had a baby coming and flu kills babies. But I'm going to do it now because I had such a terrible flu 10 months ago, I just don't want to go through that again. I realize the flu shot is only like 60% effective, but it's better than nothing. I was impressed that Master Scalir spent tons of time with me on one of my most contagious days (I thought it was just a cold at the time), and he didn't catch it. He had taken the flu shot. That convinced me to do it for 2025. I'm probably going to within the next week. I won't be doing another COVID vaccine for another 12 years.

You mentioned you had a son born in 1997, so I assume you are around my age, maybe a bit older. If under 65, it's safe for you to ignore both vaccines. But if your parents are still alive and not getting them, I'd advise you to tell them to do so.

my dad did get the covid vaccine when it first came out, so he was about 70, i tried to talk him out of it, you can probably imagine how that went but he was healthy never got colds or flus or anything , was still occasionally golfing, about a year later he started having all sorts of blood trouble, he started to become very tired all the time, blood tests followed and they determined he was VERY low on iron causing a lack of oxygen in his blood cells he went for iron blood transfusions about once a month for a year or so, now he just goes when needed when constant blood tests dictate it, then about a year after that he had a hyponatremia attack (another blood related issue), damn near killed him, about a year after that he came down with narrowing of the blood vessels to the intestines can't remember the name for that.... damn near killed him again, now he has to take shots to thin his blood and i can't remember the name of that medicine either, but he says when he gives himself these shots in the stomach he immediately feels hot and flush throughout his body for about 10 minutes or so, i don't know how he is still alive tbh... i tried to bring it up once and i mean only once, that i believed it was from that covid vaccine.... you can just imagine how that went with a Vietnam Vet vs. his kid who doesn't know a damn thing of how the real world works (in his mind).... lol...
i found out my Mom had also gotten the covid vax but she only went for the first shot and didn't go back for the booster, i was in her ear too not to get the vax , but after she kinda let it slip one day, cause she never told me she was going to get the covid vax, but then told me she did but didn't get the booster, i asked why and if she believed she got vaccine injured with the first shot... she really wouldn't answer and when i would ask if she believes she got some sort of vaccine injury she just says "i don't know" , i asked again why she didn't go back for the booster and she just says "i don't know i just didn't"... but she seems to be just fine and i have never got a clear answer as to why she didn't go back for the booster...
