Go with Turo or another gypsy rental car service. Yea, you will potentially pay more in the event of a wreck, but they don't come after you for every little ding and dent. The cars are usually messed up cosmetically in the first place, so the burden is on THEM to prove you did any of the pre-existing damage! And like others have said, take photos and video to prove your case that the damage was there and you didn't do it.

Turo usually sides with the renters over the Vehicle owners and I've never had an issue with them.

However, if you Smoke anything in the car, you're fucked for the $250 Smell Removal fee. I once picked up my Puppy years ago using a rented car from Turo. The pupper peed right on the seat within 30 minutes of driving, despite unloading itself prior to the drive when I walked it!

So I thoroughly cleaned the urine stain and sprayed it with cleaner to the point it looked and smelled BETTER than when I first got the car. I did the same to the other seats to avoid it being obvious only one spot was clean!

Depends upon the trip type, and how fucked you'll be if the car breaks down.

If it's in a place like Vegas, you're probably okay. If you're on a national parks road trip, not so much.

In general I'm not a fan of any of these unregulated services, as many of them suck, and even when they don't, you're taking a greater risk that something goes wrong.

For example, I will never stay at an AirBnb unless there's no other good choice in the area.
