Corey apparently gets paid per click, but he always puts out quality (and often humorous) work, and is never click-baity. I've been enjoying his articles since I was reading his stuff in the Torrance Daily Breeze in the mid-1990s.

Give the article a click if you'd like to support his work (and read about a lot of Vegas fees -- some of which I bet you haven't heard of!)
    Two things about the article

At Walmart I buy the 40 packs of 16.9 ounce bottled water for $5.36 plus sales tax if applicable. I carry bottles into every hotel room. I refuse to get gouged for water.

And, MGM is going to sell a lot more bottles of water at $3 a pop than they did at $6 a pop. Meaning the 3 mill loss is an overestimate.

True. He probably got that last part wrong.

It's the old "Lemonade Stand" concept. Remember that game from the '70s? They brought it to my elementary school and let us play it on the Apple II computers which had been donated. Anyway, I found it interesting as an 8-year-old because it introduced me to merchandise pricing concepts. Initially I tried to charge a ton of money for my lemonade in the game, only to have nobody come buy it, my lemonade going to waste, and booking a loss for the day. Then I tried to make it super cheap, and I ran out of lemonade fast, yet barely made a profit. It took a bit to find the sweet spot of the correct price to charge, to where demand would still be high, yet I'd make maximum profit.

I enjoyed the game so much that I made my own version for the IBM PC in the mid '80s, seeing that it hadn't yet been created. I distributed it as freeware. Probably can't be found at this point.

Anyway, back to MGM. You're correct that they'd sell a lot more water for $3/each, and probably make more profit overall.

That was always my argument about other expensive hotel things, such as pay-per-view movies (before it was easy to download movies on your computer or iPad), and minibars. I said that people wanted this stuff, but wouldn't pay the outrageous prices. I said that they'd do way better overall if they dropped the price to at least be in the ballpark of reasonable.

Mirage was at least smart enough to carry high end water, so when they charged $17/bottle, it didn't seem quite as bad. I mean, it was bad, but at least you knew it was premium water. Hilarious that MGM was dumb enough to carry a brand sold in 24-packs at Walmart. Fail!!!

BTW, one time Vegas Matt was filming at Mirage, and I was staying there. I was invited to come down and be part of the show that day, so I did. I was mostly in the background and not seen much, but one of Matt's sidekicks (who is a PFA radio fan) offered me a water. It was one of the $17 waters! I said, "Oh, I can't take that from you, it's $17 water!", and he insisted he got it comped as part of their action there, so I took it. But before he explained it, I legit felt guilty about taking the water and costing poor Vegas Matt $17!

Seems like they're dead set on that rate for Sunday, unless I arrive THAT Sunday and stay for 5 nights After, which defeats the purpose of using my time off!
    Wait, I'm confused.

The rate is $331 on Sunday if it's the last night you stay, but it's cheaper if you are staying STARTING Sunday and remain 4 additional nights?

Now that I don't believe. Or if it's true, I've never seen it before, and there's probably a workaround.

Have you tried mock booking just Sunday and see what happens? Don't put it through, but tell me what happens if you try to stay Sunday only (to check out Monday).

Also, I would be wary of "Room Assigned Upon Arrival". That's giving them the authorization to assign you the worst room in the house. You are given literal last priority regarding room choice.

Among other problems, the rooms facing Flamingo Rd are VERY noisy. They can drop you in a low-floor room facing Flamingo, and good luck getting any sleep.

Oh, one more thing. Do you happen to know anyone who is Diamond that lives locally (or is not local but will be in Vegas when you arrive)? You can put him down as a second guest, check in with him, and they will waive your resort fees. The only time they won't is if he has a Caesars property room at the same time.
Yea, I tried your method and it did Comp Sunday at Harrahs, but Saturday's rate doubled! Then when I tried to mock run a reservation starting Sun Oct. 5 and into the next week, None of the days beyond Sunday were comped anywhere, lol!

At this point, I'm just gonna bite the bullet and pay for the Saturday night stay as $53 is pretty good IMO. Then I will try to book at another property like MGM for Sunday as they have sent me numerous offers for mid-week stays! I do have a friend who is Seven Stars, but they are a total degen and tends to get moody when they lose, so I would rather not use them for waiving the resort fees unless I lose my Ass! Haha!

    Thanks

    Two questions:

    1) Why are you okay with "Room Assigned Upon Arrival"? Are you really cool with the worst, noisiest room in the house? I'm not kidding when I say you might get that.

    2) Why not just take Harrah's and avoid the hassle of switching for the final night?

I can't stress enough that you're risking a terrible room at Horseshoe if you book it this way, and with Gold status they aren't going to give a shit if you object.

Not sure who first spoke to the bifurcation of present day Vegas. High end versus Low.

Caesars one year chart. They are asking for a marker.

I'm just browsing, these would not be my final choices obviously. I fully intend on upgrading at the counter by slipping the clerk a $20 bill : )

And Harrahs is a bit of a walk from the Strip. I'd rather be centrally located at Horseshoe or Paris, or even Planet Hollywood than have to walk to it every day from Harrahs. Renting a car is dumb because it will be another $80 per day plus parking fees.

I will likely end up at Harrahs, but the rates seem to get better and better by the week. Here's the latest one from Harrahs in which they are comping me 6 days, so I'm certain I can get the Saturday rate down if I keep looking.

The analysis I'm seeing is that Vegas home prices will decline about 3-10% in 2026, but it won't be a full blown crash.

    BWB,

Let me know if the $20 trick works. I probably wouldn't use it myself, but I'm just curious.

I am too bothered by noise when sleeping to chance getting a shitty room. I put substantial effort in my hotel visits to call the day-of and ask them to lock me into a room on the "quiet side". I'm not just talking about Vegas hotels. I do it every single place I go. I end up hating life when I forget to do it (or they can't accommodate my request) and I get a room facing a noisy street.

Maybe you're a heavy sleeper and this isn't an issue for you. As frugal as I am, I prefer to pay a bit extra to ensure this doesn't happen to me. I never want to knowingly book myself into a status where they can say, "Tough luck, this is your room", and I have zero recourse.

Yea it’s fight night in Vegas but for at least one night the “Vegas is dead” and the “Nobody goes to Vegas anymore” narrative from the YouTube grifters isn’t true. But most of us already knew that.

Shit hotels that go for $20 during the week are $500+

Oh it works, but usually your best odds if you get a female clerk, who may be on the heavier set side and you flirt with them. It not only makes their day but it enhances your stay.

So I did book my stay for next month and waiting paid off HUGE. I'm not going to disclose where I ended up booking, but it was Fully Comped Including Sunday and Saturday for 6 days comped! Then The last Sunday I'll have a flight leaving late and may or may not extend my stay depending on how I do! LOL!

I get ya on the room thing, I'm not a regular in Vegas and this will be my 2nd trip in as many years. I really don't care as long as I get a good deal. I can sleep through anything I'm told! And I have a friend who lives 20 minutes from the strip, so I can always shack up with her if the room is less than satisfactory!

Was checking show tickets and out of morbid curiosity looked up Dolly Parton tickets in Dec since Celebs seem to be falling off at an alarming rate this year (R.I.P. Bob Redford!) and it was a staggering $2100 for Nose Bleed seats!! That's Worse than Wrestlemania this year and that show was mediocre at best.

I can't imagine a woman pushing 80 putting on a show worth $2000 for the "cheap seats"?

Heck, I wouldn't even pay that to see Sabrina Carpenter and she is worth seeing at some point down the road. Like when she gets tired of the flat chested jokes and her ample booty starts to sag 20 years from now!

Anyway, hope to run into our favorite fraudulent Masturbating Midget and Maybe even Fam Bam... okaaaaay???

Las Vegas visitors shocked at 'crazy' costs, from $14 coffees to $95 ATM fees - Travelers reveal $50 early check-in charges and $30 cocktails as Strip occupancy drops 7%

Las Vegas becoming 'playground for the affluent' as 'everyday traveler' left behind - Casino CEO says high-end market continues growing while 'other end is kind of hurting'

As Las Vegas tourism continues to decrease, many are calling out the high prices, as others say Vegas is now appealing primarily to America’s wealthy rather than the "average traveler."

In the "r/LasVegas" forum on Reddit, one user wrote, "Las Vegas is overpriced and out of touch. I’m not surprised people aren’t visiting."

Said another person, "I actually think Las Vegas has shifted its strategy, and it’s not by accident, it’s by design. The city is no longer trying to appeal to the average traveler or budget-conscious visitor."
