Both pitchers really wound up on the appropriate teams.
As Bauer informed us, the Dodgers were master chemists with the sticky icky and Glasnow loved his goop. In one sense Dodgers were once a match. The Bauer video was a classic period piece.

Ohtani 95mph fastball and really good off speed. I just don’t see him repeating his youthful Angels heroics. Friedman holds his breath on his $700m gamble

Freeman now has a quad issue. Aging sucks.

I’m on this tall 2 pitch flame thrower F5 +114 for the pure entertainment. I’m gonna ladder his walks 2+ -130 & 3+ +230 'cause you know. He may get yanked early so 3 is enough
    I misremembered. 3+ +205

    Edit.
Damn I got too much going on. Memory is slipping

    I actually caught 3+ +240 a few hours ago. Then I added 3+ +205. It’s off the board now

This kid is gonna be so amped he might kill someone. I didn’t see a prop for that

From the other thread, I got tricked into an o4.5 5 innings Yankees bet because both pitchers have struggled.

Except... I didn't see that Judge wasn't playing. He's played every game up until now, so I took it for granted.

In MLB I am basically aware of the injuries, and one player sitting and resting isn't a big deal like it can be in NBA or NFL, so I didn't bother looking at the lineups, and it cost me. Had I seen Judge was resting, I wouldn't have placed it.

I bet Skenes first 5 ML assuming they have to eventually score for him. Nope. Void bet. You can’t make this shit up. They won at least but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was cheering against them at this point.

Dodgers Yamamoto walks 3 men then gives up a grand slam to bring them all across home plate.

    Maybe he’s hurt too.

Dave Roberts gonna ask Yoshi to take one for the team like Sauer.

This is going to sound weird, but I almost hope Yoshi gets hurt and sits for awhile.

I don't think he has the durability to go an entire season and still be sharp in the postseason. He was able to bear down and pitch (mostly) well in the 2024 postseason because he had his time to "rest" during his injury. He and Flaherty were basically the starting rotation. It's a miracle they won the World Series like this.

So the Dodgers ran out and got Snell and Sasaki so this won't happen again, and... well, it happened again. And Glasnow is of course injured. And Gonsolin now too, not that it really matters at this point.

The rotation now is Yamamoto/May/Kershaw. Seriously. They're kinda-sorta making Ben Casparius a starter.

On the bright side, maybe Kershaw will get one more chance to shake the Cardinals monkey off his back in the postseason.

    Playoffs? You talkin Kershaw playoffs?

Let’s see if Kershaw wilts today under the mid season pressure of losing first place in the NL West for the Doyers.

Dodgers asking Yoshi to pitch every 6 days is a lot to ask of anyone’s ace. Yoshi definitely needs time off.

Molly Knight needs to do the definitive book on Dodgers pitching. Wait til the Ohtani results are clear, I guess. If that fails she will be #1 NY Times

Red Sox getting off that Devers extension while still getting a few pieces in return has to be a win for them.

Who are the pieces? They got a couple boring prospects and 2 pitchers who aren't having good seasons. What part of this trade helps them win now?

Three words: Service time manipulation (by the Pirates, that is)

A few facts and notes for this morning:

Ohtani is pitching tonight. Mark my words, the Ohtani pitching thing is going to be viewed as a mistake. Dodgers need to learn the phrase, "If it works, don't fix it." He has a 1.023 OPS, and 26 HR in 69 games. Last year he hit 54 HR while stealing 59 and had an OPS of 1.036. Dodgers are making a fortune off merchandising and the new fans from Japan. $70 mil per year (deferred) never looked like such a bargain. Imagine if you fuck this up because you're trying to get innings out of his arm.

Ohtani missed a lot of games in 2018 and 2019 due to pitching injuries. He missed the end of the 2023 season, again, due to a pitching injury -- one that almost cost him the MVP.

He's in the 2nd year of a 10-year deal. Do you really want to potentially bring on a catastrophic injury which could ruin his ability to pound the ball like he currently has? He's almost 31 years old, and may not recover as quickly next time.

I understand they signed him to both pitch and hit. It's a neat gimmick, but let's skip it. Maybe let him do it in an emergency in the postseason. Not now. Not regularly.

He will be limited to about 55 pitches today.

Many don't realize how bad the Giants' hitting has been, because their pitching has covered for it.

But it isn't good. Of the teams over .500 in the NL, only the Brewers (whose offensive issues are well known) and the injury-laden Padres have comparable run totals. The Dodgers, for example, have scored 399 runs to the Giants' 309.

But it's not just runs scored. The Giants just don't have offensive stars. The fact that released Dom Smith not only got picked up by the Giants, but batted cleanup today, is all you need to know. The OPS of the bottom half of the lineup is beyond sad, and the top half isn't exactly crushing it.

Ironically, Matt Chapman, currently injured but projected back within 2 weeks or so, plays third base, and plays it well. So guess who probably won't be playing 3B, after all of his bitching about the same situation in Boston?

Devers should help the offense somewhat, but the Giants are still going to have problems scoring runs. It's not like the Padres who have a lot of stars but just haven't put it together yet.

Giants didn't give up much, though.

Kyle Harrison had potential, but couldn't really put it together at the MLB level.

Jordan Hicks' potential came and went ages ago. He reinvented himself as a starter, which worked for a bit last year, before collapsing this year. I don't think he's worth much at this point.

Minor leaguers James Tibbs and Jose Bello are nobodies, and not likely to make much of an impact.

Red Sox are basically praying that Harrison, at age 23, still has a lot of room to improve. Keep in mind that Harrison was only a third round pick, and while the Giants were excited about him for a bit, he just hasn't put anything together resembling consistency or dominance.

This looks like a combo of a salary dump and just wanting to eject a problem player, even though they weren't getting much in return.

    ----

Something nobody is talking about, though, is the Wilmer Flores situation. Flores has hit well this year. He's among the league leaders with his 51 RBI, and has 11 HR. This is arguably his career year, though in 2023 he also hit well.

With Devers going to DH, that will probably force a platoon between Flores and Dom Smith at 1B, which is stupid, because Smith has started off well with the Giants, and Flores has been the one of the team's reliable producers. At the moment, with Chapman injured, all 3 can play, but the Giants may not even want to do that, because that would require putting Devers at 3B and then taking it away from him in 2-3 weeks.

The gain of Devers means less if they have to subtract playing time from Flores.
