Snow White is one of the 10 most important films of all time. Any remake was going to suck. Maybe they can recoup their losses by making a PC version of Gone With The Wind.

With all respect to Mr Hollywood’s efforts - that was the only question I had about this whole affair, WHY?

It’s art. Leave it alone. Disney doesn’t even put respect on their own accomplishment.

Is there such an absence of creativity at Disney that there are no new ideas?

I saw last week or the week before was the lowest total ticket sales this year. I don’t even look anymore to see what’s playing. Seems I’m not alone

The other woke remakes have still done pretty well, despite being awful. That non-white broad being dragged by Team Retard is also awful but a movie with a black mermaid did well despite TR's outrage.

There's also an IDF zionist in the movie, and it looks positively awful.

It honestly represented all of the abhorrent and off-putting attributes of today's impractical, social leftism.

They felt that casting a white lead in a remake would somehow be bigoted or regressive, so they chose a dark-skinned Colombian woman to play Snow White, a character literally named after her pale, light complexion.

They let Peter Dinklage, of all people, shame them into believing that featuring dwarves was furthering a negative stereotype of those with dwarfism, even though Dinklage's entire career exists because he's 4'5". They responded by firing all of the dwarf actors, and replacing them with unsettling CGI characters living right in the uncanny valley.

They bizarrely cast a beautiful woman, Gal Gadot, to play the role of the Evil Queen, who was supposed to be jealous of Snow White's beauty. That's the equivalent of making a 1990s film where Brad Pitt plays a guy jealous of Cheech Marin's good looks. You aren't supposed to notice that Gal Gadot, even when made up as the Evil Queen, is more attractive than Rachel Zegler. If you even think this, you're a racist, and therefore must banish such considerations from your head.

Worst yet, they gave Rachel Zegler the freedom to shoot her mouth off for years, doing irreparable damage to the film in ways I've never seen a star even consider. She expressed a complete hatred of the original story, where she called Snow White's love interest a "stalker", and bragged that the modern film would anger those who were expecting anything like the original. She didn't just criticize Trump, but said terrible things about the half of the country who voted for him. She overtly supported Palestine after the 10/7 attacks, and infamously clashed with Gadot, an Israeli, about them. How did Disney not have language in the contract prohibiting Zegler from badmouthing anything related to the movie, its characters, or its original source material? They need to fire the lawyers who drew up that contract. The studio should have had a muzzle on Zegler, who was not otherwise a huge star, and did not have the clout to refuse to sign a speech-restricting contract.

But that's where we get our problem. Disney did not muzzle Zegler for the same reason that they didn't refuse the employee demands to get involved in the DeSantis matter. For a long time, Disney let the inmates run the asylum, to where it became the norm, and the executives had corporate Stockholm Syndrome.

It's not like Disney did not know what was coming. They didn't screen a normal early premiere for critics, but instead handpicked longtime sycophants to attend. They backed away from having Zegler promote the movie. They were relatively certain it would flop, and too much damage had been done.

Disney wishes they could go back and do things differently, but it was too late. Zegler's involvement itself was toxic enough, so the only way to reverse Snow White's fortunes would be trashing the entire film and starting over, which they clearly weren't going to do. They're in hangover mode right now, and I'm not referring to the charming 2000s film about shenanigans in Vegas. Basically the studio got drunk with wokeness, and now they just have to endure the hangover and wait for it to lift.

There will not be another Disney mistake like Snow White. They are going to learn from this. They already have learned, but they couldn't bring this train back into the station.

Does this mean the right's current gloating tour is correct? Is this going to be an epic disaster, and a flop of unimaginable proportions? Were those theater seatmap pics from opening night, showing 3 out of 150 seats filled, accurate? Is literally no one attending this film? I will answer that in my conclusion post next.
I know she was a supermodel and all that, but I don't find Gal Gadot more attractive. I had no idea who the girl in the movie was, but after googling her, I think she is far prettier than Gadot however obnoxious she may be. She is far younger and I am pretty sure young girls would find the young 20 something prettier than the 40 year old that kind of looks like a post op tranny now. She used to be kind of attractive, but there are dozens of pics of them next to each other when I searched and the young girl is far prettier in every one.

It sounds like the movie will fail because I haven't heard a good thing about it, but it won't be for that weird reason.

You got me on the Oz remake. People I know loved it. Saw it twice.

I just thought it was a lot of effort when a plot would have been enough. Just dumb

The two DEI obsessives Disney and Daily Wire compelled by a remake. Figures. Miss me with that

Word on the street there is a remake of To Kill a Mockingbird. Instead of the black guy, it will be the white accused raping a Puerto Rican man in a barn.

Everything I read, and it was before I saw this thread, is break even is $500M worldwide, as most of their marketing costs were paid for by third parties wanting to partner with an iconic movie brand. The production costs were ~ $250M.

Regardless as Harry pointed out, the merchandising and streaming will eventually make it profitable. But the idea this was going to enter the Toy Story or Nemo stratosphere is almost laughable now.

I almost get the sense these retread movies are falling out of favor. The real test will be Top Gun 3, set to start filming in later this year. Cruise has said more than once his fear is to make a Godfather 3 type sequel and hurt the brand. We'll see. If he is shirtless on the beach again at age 65 it will bomb. Conversely, it he is also an aging Top Gun instructor it will also bomb because everyone predicts that. Going to take some creative writing to sell this one to $1B worldwide.

The Top Gun remake worked in part because people hadn't been back to theaters in forever and they were smart to make it mostly apolitical. It also was canned for a couple of years because Cruise wisely pushed for a theatrical release versus dumping it on a streamer.

Going back to the well wouldn't be nearly as successful but it would probably be solid regardless.

Cruise may be too long in tooth.

That is the liberal line about people wanting to get back to the theater, that is a bunch of bullshit. It worked because Cruise was brilliant in waiting 30 years to do the remake. It was always going to be a $1B movie, in fact it would have been $2B if not for Covid and China getting pissy and refusing to allow it because Trump called Covid the China virus.

The only pent up demand was for Top Gun post Covid, and it was because people waited 30 years to see part 2. It had nothing to do racing back to the theater. I, like most, saw Top Gun 2 in the theater, but it had zero to do about wanting to sit next to a bunch of strangers in a crowded theater and eat cold popcorn. Try not to be so gullible all the fucking time and listening to the media, where did that get you when they predicted Harris would win easily, yeah not so much.

No sorry, most normal people were not racing to the movie theater post Covid. I mean who the fuck would ever say, I just cant wait to get back to a crowded movie theater with people under the poverty line? I went because I wanted to see Top Gun part 2 on a huge screen, I have not been back to a theater since. I just had no pent up demand to sit among a bunch of strangers, some that stink like shit, to watch movies. You obviously travel in different circles. You sound like the guy who could not wait to race back to the local carnival or something post covid. Guys like me were ready to get back to going to Mortons.

The first movie was the gayest thing of all time.

LOL at a grown man waiting 30 years clamoring for more oiled up studs playing volleyball led by a closet scientologist. Did you even bring 'the kids and wife', or did you fly solo?

Obviously the return to theaters boosted ticket sales, retard. And it was good, so we all win.

We get it, Trump won. Congrats. Not everyone is so hungry up on it.

I am getting tired owning you, but there was no pent up demand to race back to the movies. Everyone making above say $50,000 a year hates going to the movies. Top Gun was unusual because it was the most popular movie of the 80s and 50 year old guys like me wanted to see it on the big screen for obvious reasons. It had nothing to do with lock down relief, FFS I was walking around without a mask the entire Covid time, so this pent up demand did not really effect me, I was doing whatever I wanted anyway. If Top Gun came out in the middle of Covid and the theater was open I would have went then.

You really have mental issues. I am not sure your insecurity issues. My advice is take a chance in life, professionally, and find an occupation that makes you a lot more money. You will be much happier. Yes money does buy happiness. It's much more enjoyable to stay in a Hilton suite than a Best Western.

What are the obvious reasons a 50 year old man wants to see a sequel to a 80's movie gayer than Brokeback Mountain?

You're dialed in about 10% of the time these days, 90% either mediocre or completely retarded.

You're arguing against basic facts, obvious now and in the moment. Tom Cruise himself held the movie back so it wouldn't fall flat during COVID. A simple Google search immediately reveals all of this.

We get it, there's lots of anger looking back at a life pissed away in the bottle, leaving nothing but a trail hurt and pain. Now even the bottle has turned on you. Sucks lol, but doesn't change facts

Cruise may be too long in tooth.

They made a lot of smart decisions with Top Gun 2.

They acknowledged Tom Cruise's age without making him look too feeble or pathetic.

They paired him with an age-appropriate woman who was still attractive, rather than having a 30-year-old fall for him. This made the film more appealing to female viewers, and also made it generally more relatable. It can actually be irritating for older men to watch male movie characters their age effortlessly attracting hot young women.

The plot was patriotic but not right wing, and the "enemy" was not named. This made it appealing to nearly everyone, and non-controversial.

    The writing was solid.

Tom Cruise himself keeps his mouth shut and doesn't get involved in controversy, aside from the scientology bullshit.

Basically Tom Cruise knows what the people want to see, does what he needs to do to keep himself looking physically good, and keeps making successful movies.

I agree that a third Top Gun picture will not do as well as the second, though.

Cruise has been incredibly smart never commenting on politics. As far as Scientology, I know he pushes it in very inner Hollywood circles, but I never see him commenting on it publicly. He probably knows its toxic to his brand and I am sure he is probably there as the leading member for a sexual nature. Whether he is banging dudes like Travolta, or having group sex with say 5 women at a time, who knows. Either way he is not there for the L Ron Hubbard literature. But who cares, he makes great movies.

As far as Top Gun 3, I know Cruise is hyper protective of the brand. Obviously he will have all creative decisions over the plot. I just can't imagine what it would be. I mean nobody is going to believe a 65 year old fighter pilot, and you don't want to see the ending where he is banned to fly, but grabs his helmet and defies orders and takes off and shoots down the enemy at the end. That would be cringe-worthy. Of course, there is the Top Gun instructor angle, but meh, that is predictable. But these writers are creative, it was absolutely incredible they brought in Goose's son in the last one, who looked like Goose in part 2. Nobody expected that when the trailer hit, that was part of the hype. They called this the greatest trailer ever made:

BedWetterBettor: Since they basically stole the Plot of Star Wars, it would be fitting that the next installment is a ripoff of the Empire Strikes Back and the "Enemy" launches a counterattack. Prompting Maverick to gear up one last time!

The first time I can recall seeing Gal Gadot was when she entered the Fast and the Furious franchise. And I never thought she was particularly attractive . Neither are exactly my cup of tea, but I would agree even age adjusted Rachel Ziegler is a more attractive person.

In semi-related news (and just to provide a counter example of a current actress I do find attractive), I am watching the old Apple TV Foundation series and one of the main actresses (Lou Llobell) I find insanely attractive, and I find it kind of weird she hasn't really had any work since this role, which was probably filmed 5 yeas ago.

    I realize attractiveness is subjective.

I was never really into Gal Gadot either, but I find her a lot more attractive than Rachel Zegler, who is not my type at all. This is unrelated to Zegler's personality and Jew-hating, which I find especially unappealing. But independent of that, I just don't find her to be pretty.

She's also just a bizarre choice for Snow White. Changing the race of Snow White was much different than doing it for The Little Mermaid. At least in The Little Mermaid, Ariel wasn't necessarily supposed to be a white redhead -- she just happened to be that. Snow White was supposed to be an extremely fair-skinned white woman, and that was the reason for her name. The Evil Queen was supposed to be jealous of Snow White's "fair skin". For Disney to change that, for sake of wokeness, was really stupid. It would be like making a live action version of Moana and changing the Moana character to a white girl.

Meh. As far as I can tell she just made a couple progressive "free Palestine" tweets. For someone with an obvious progressive ideology (based on pretty much everything else she has said and written); I dont really see any cause to call her Jew hating. I mean if her name was Ilhan Omar, and considered Erdogan a close friend, and she wore Hijab, and she was constantly complaining about AIPAC and Jew money; then I think it would be fair to make that leap. But for a generic 20 year old American progressive that probably couldn't locate Palestine on a map 2 years ago; seems like an unnecessary leap.

What is real wild about this whole story is that a NY based actress named Rachel Zegler who was discovered by Steven Spielberg isn't Jewish.

Normally I try not to do this, but considering the girl has made a gazillion dollars for being beautiful, she is fair game. But I find Gal hard looking, and when a chick looks like she can palm a basketball and probably has size 13 feet at her 6'2 height, they just feel unfeminine to me and that is a big turnoff. I am sure she is deeply concerned my old ass don't dig her lol. The other girl just looks like a cute girl at the mall you'd see, but that is still preferrable to some Wookie for me who could play PF in the WNBA.

Meh. Google says she is 5'10". She is still just a guard in WNBA. Basically Caitlyn Clark build.
