This whole conversation kind of assumes Putin is actually willing to accede to some sort of reasonable peace plan. Now I dont have any information one way or another, but I dont think any of you do either and are really kind of baking this in with no real insight. Last time I checked, Putin's idea of a peace treaty is Ukraine giving up a bunch of land Russia hasn't even taken, and then promising to demilitarize no matter what Russia does. Which seems like he isn't really serious.

That said, before we get ourselves into this shit each time, it is really kind of simple. Would you send your kid to save Ukraine? I imagine it's a fuck no. Do you want your kid to be paying for it 30 years from now? I assume that's a no. I feel for them, but not so much so that I want to keep spending like we did for 20 years in the middle east and start dealing with our infrastructure fucked with in the technical ways that Russia is capable of. Some people are just born in the wrong area of the world, and it is unfortunate. Us pumping them full of false hope and BS is really bad policy also. Many countries would be better off if they never met us. Throughout history you see this reoccurring theme of the world powers always returning to consolidating their sphere of influence. And in a nuclear world, what can you really do? It is Russia. Fighting wars with them requires either millions of bodies or a blank check forever.
Putin cheerleading is gross. That scene the other day was embarrassing. But so many people that lean left view him as the king of all the misinformation, and he still is, and I hate that, but that doesn't mean he is actually going to start a war and start invading Western Europe. It doesn't mean his replacement will be better. We don't run well with regime change. Maybe he does invade others, and I am wrong? I don't think he will go that far, in which case, there isn't much to be done. We will face the same situation in Taiwan at some point. I can understand Europe being really uncomfortable with the situation though with how cozy Trump is with him.
It is a bully situation. We are the biggest bully, but that bully over there fighting the neighbor a world away might join with China and form a real bully that we don't have the means or resolve to deal with. That is a way more likely than him invading Britain or France by a long way imo. He knows we have to get involved then. But I wouldn't want to be in eastern europe in a fomer USSR country or Poland. That is greyer, but I think Russia will have to rebuild for a good while after this shit and hopefully we at least bought some time for our many billions. That Putin is scum and that we can't do much about Ukraine to me both seem pretty true.
