So let me ask you a serious question, RBC… what is your preferred endgame here? Not trolling you. Im genuinely curious. If you could have this war end in your exact preferred method, what would that be? I think we can all agree on the fact that it needs to end, ASAP.
Sure, in a utopian world, Putin would suddenly gain a conscience, realize he’s a bully, withdraw fully from Ukraine and Crimea, restore the original borders, and contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction. Obviously that’s not gonna happen.
There are realities that simply can’t be ignored. Ukraine isn’t winning a war with Russia, ever. Full stop. Doesn’t matter how many billions in cash and ordnance the west throws at it. The math just doesn’t work out.
We’ve sanctioned Russia to death, and that’s also been ineffective. There’s really not much more we can do in that regard. Putin and the oligarchs aren’t dumb. They’ve figured out how to structure things so that the sanctions have minimal impact.
Any measures going beyond that (offing Putin, for example) carry *enormous* destabilization risks that legit bring those WWIII scenarios more and more into play.
It’s a strange time on Earth when you have histrionic narcissists in charge of all three of the world’s superpowers, but here we are. Trump is certainly that, as is Putin. Trump is right though… it’s unfortunate, but Putin holds the cards in Ukraine right for no other reason than simple mathematics. That means the path to peace, right wrong, or indifferent, must also go through him. TL;DR: He’s going to get a lot of what he wants, and Ukraine isn’t. Think of it as the ICM chop at the war’s final table.
I hope you would agree that we simply *cannot* continue to send unchecked billions over there when all they result in is (at best) a continued stalemate.

Russia, when the war first started, was supposed to rollover Ukraine. However, Ukraine has not only held its own in the war, with the help of foreign aid, but also has pushed Russia back and reclaimed some of its lost territory. The war isn't going the way Russia wanted, and there is a strong chance that Russia would lose. Why do I want to the war to end when there is a strong possibility of forever crushing putin? Also, how have our sanctions not hurt Russia? There is a reason they are trying to get Korean soldiers and using old weaponry. Russia is a shell of its former self due to those sanctions.
