California for the High Cost of Living, doesn't sound that great
    It isn't.

However, for many reasons, including my parents being elderly, I'm not going to be leaving anytime soon. So I'll just have to put up with whatever bullshit happens, and make the best of it.

It says it provides 1229 watt hours of power. However, even its own display indicates I get half that. For example, if I am running 30w worth of devices, it will tell me I have a little over 20 hours of power (and this seems to be accurate). It should be 40.

Has anyone seen anything like this, or do I just have a defective unit? I put in a question to the manufacturer about it. This half capacity forced me to spend more time in Starbucks recharging it than I cared to do.
I got my mom a power station/block and the instructions were BEFORE routine use- charge it up 3x and and run it down to zero. This was actual live person phone instructions. Seemed to work as the power station holds a long charge still after 3 years.

The concept of “Prayers For Druff” is funny. Nobody wants to pray for Druff.

I respect his intelligence and radio ability but (I believe) Druff hasn’t had a real job for 25 years and is living off a lucky 1-2 million he won in 2002 during the salad days of online poker(?). Good for him, I guess. Right place, right time. But is he the laziest, most-often-sick human alive?

(I don’t believe he currently makes a living wage playing limit poker against crasians at Commerce/The Bike.)
We should still pray for Druff, he gets sick sometimes and we don’t want him to die.

Mine arrived with 87% charge. So presumably it was charged to 100% and lost 13% in the time between production and shipping to me.

I charged the final 13%, as instructed, before running it.

I ran it most of the way down (to 17%) before recharging the first time, and all the way down to zero before recharging the second time.

It was down to 40% when my power came back this morning, and I've since charged it to 100%. Maybe I should've run it down. Oops.

Anyway, it still doesn't make sense why I'm getting half capacity here. I think it's either defective or I'm not seeing something.

You can just go on Alibaba and order your own "powerwall" for about 10% of the cost of an actual Tesla powerwall.

Second the support to people affected by this disaster.
Luckily Druff (a millionaire) will survive.
    Bad joke.

I like Druff. I mean, he doesn’t just get sick sometimes, he gets sick all the time. For a lazy bastard who always stays at home, it’s miraculous how often he gets sick. But, a lifetime of laziness begets having a pathetically weak immune system (constitution). ( Todd objects to references about him having a weak constitution.)

Anyway, Todd is happy to get by with his 1.5 mill from 2003.

I think Todd has had more losing years than winning years playing limit poker vs. crasians at the LA casinos.

Honestly, I feel bad. My life has been crappy lately and I have been lashing out here. I like and respect Todd. So, I just wanted to say I am a little bit sorry for the unnecessary heckling.
Anyway, I shouldn’t have done it in the first place, but I did. Oh well.

    Santa Ana winds BACK tomorrow

This means not just wind, but low humidity once again.

Oddly they are once again not warm. Typically Santa Ana winds bring unseasonable warm weather, sometimes with highs in the 80s. Not this time. High here is going to be 68 (just slightly above normal), and low is going to be 48. This is about 4 degrees above normal, which is cold for Santa Ana standards.

Hopefully I keep power this time.

    Power out AGAIN.

Started 6am today, so the cold morning air could make my house an uncomfortable temperature right off the bat.

This is so ridiculous. Turning off power for days is NOT trivial, but they act like it is.

It's not just inconvenience. It's also a public health issues:

    - Some people have CPAP or other important home medical equipment which needs power.

    - Lack of heat in the winter is non-trivial, even in southern CA. This is especially true for seniors and babies, or anyone else affected by constant indoor cool temperatures.

    - Traffic lights do not work, and some of them are not even doing the flashing red thing, causing people unfamiliar with the area to zoom through intersections at 50 mph. There is already one fatality in the area due to this.

    - Food spoils. It is not always easy to figure out which food has gone bad and which hasn't, after a power failure, even if you use coolers like I do. This can lead to food poisoning.

    - Lack of light. This can cause injuries, especially to the elderly.

    - Lack of communications. This is actually huge. Due to most of these outages hitting people in hilly areas, their cell signals are often bad at home, and need Wifi in order to work. Cell signals also worsen during outages because nearby towers, on backup power, go into low power mode. I have my own microcell device, and I power my internet, but without that I would have almost no cell service during an outage, and would be fucked during an emergency.

    - Most alarm systems do not work, or have a relatively short backup battery life before completely failing. I am powering my system, so this doesn't apply to me, but it does to most. This causes an increased number of break-ins, as burglars are aware of this fact. Some people can't even call police! I have my gun ready and will put a bullet in the head of whoever tries to break in here.

The local power company has taken an arrogant and dismissive attitude about these power shutoffs, basically saying, "Fuck you, we are preventing your house from burning, so shut up and deal with it." Their communications have been very poor, and you never know when your power will go on or off.

As I said before, it's like living in a third world country. This is my 3rd outage in January, and 5th since late November.

Had an outage occurred during my recent flu, I would have been extra miserable, as it came with tremendous chills which required me to heat the room to high temperatures. I would have been really really cold if I had no power during all that. My chills and fever went away just days before the first January outage.

Well, you could get solar power to prevent this in the future, but enduring the scorn from your retarded conservative friends might be problematic.

You'd be dead here in the Artic circle at -14 tonight. We start fires for warmth. On the bright side, all your frozen stuff would be fine in your garage.
