DETROIT TIGERS!! TEAM OF DESTINY!! TEAM OF VOODOO?? (detroit lions superbowl contender omg)

Through a combination of multiple pitchers and pinch hitters the DETROIT TIGERS have literally “clawed” their way to success and have been on a figurative and improbable playoff run since early August. After a 10+ year sports drought Detroit is on fire. (go red wings!)

This is wild, crazy, exciting and somehow they keep winning. Can they keep it up? Over a hundred years of baseball statistics will tell you it is an obvious NO. BUT WHEN YOU ARE IN THE MOMENT AND FEELING IT ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!

Currently today October 4th, 2024 at 11:07am the DETROIT TIGERS are +370 to win the ALDS and +1200 to win the world series. LETS GOOOOO

Twins GM stepped down. Was kinda 2 headed thing like most teams now, "president of baseball ops" or whatever still there.

This headline popping up on my phone still made me chuckle:

The greatest single day of baseball 2024 tomorrow. 12 hours on the couch. I’m all stocked up with necessary supplies. Wife is out of town. I am blessed. I won’t shower for days

Dodgers version of the World Series tomorrow, of course.

stupid legacy outlets like TBS, FOX and FS1 are challenges. Why doesn’t MLB have this offered on the digital package? They must hate ratings. If I wasn’t a fan I might have passed too.

    Can’t wait

It’s like what March Madness and College Bowl Day on NY day was like before they fucked those all up.

The Tito news shocked me. I’m really happy because he stepped away because of his health. Clearly he was beloved here, but he’s a baseball lifer and must be feeling well and hating retirement, so I’m glad he’s well because I love that guy.

But, I’ve always hated the Reds and it pains me a bit. All that Big Red Machine shit during my formative years while the Tribe lost 100 games every year. Like Shohei to Dodgers for you, except I don’t hate the Reds quite as badly. That level of vitriol is more reserved for Michigan football for me. Ann Arbor should be thrilled I don’t have access to a tactical nuke.

I just missed the Big Red Machine. My life didn’t intersect with Fisk’s homer and the Reds. It’s a concept and grainy images. Something I read about in Sports Illustrated.

Pete Rose’s passing is a similar struggle to process his importance.

Tito is still a god in Boston, of course. He is the guy Dave Roberts patterns himself after with lesser result.

When I read the Tito news today I immediately thought of Tito shit canning Trevor Bauer after his stunt throwing the ball over the center field fence. Dim-wit Friedman thought he was smarter than the Indians. The rest was lulz.

I missed the beginning of it, but caught the end of it in mid-late 70s. Familiarity breeds contempt and I was getting Big Red Machine from the south straight into We Are Family from the east. Dark years drawing 5400 in 80k seat stadium and trading everyone with a pulse. Both have been bad long enough now and poor also that it’s taken the edge off. I actually fell bad for the Pirates fans now. Ownership will fuck this Skenes thing up for sure

This is exactly what the doctor ordered for my aging heart and Skubal up next.

I didn't want to say it was over after first and jinx everything, but we knew it was over after the first.

Some well qualified kid should step in to run the twins. The mlb roster isnt bad but they got a lot of young talent and should have a lot of payroll wiggle room.

    Its a top 5 situation

Well, I'm sure Sanlmar is laughing right now at the Dodgers and Yamamoto.

Kinda took the excitement away from Ohtani's 3-run shot to temporarily tie the game. Live by the Japanese, die by the Japanese.

The good news is that Cease doesn't look great tonight either.

Stacking Benjamin’s with YRFI, F3 F5 & F7 BTTS bets all cashing plus total - waiting for under Yammy outs 14.5.

I ran out of ways to fade the highest paid pitcher in MLB history

Did you hear Friedman talk about Flaherty’s diminished velocity and Mark Prior making some “mechanical” adjustments. Oh, that’s sounds REAL good. I wouldn’t let Prior near Flaherty unless 56,000 people were present.

Fiddle with mechanics in the playoffs. Pitchers an are endangered species in LA

Ohtani working to cement his greatest of a time legend by carrying the Dodgers to a win. I see it but I almost can’t believe my eyes

    No words.

Going forward I want to establish a culture of inclusivity, empathy and safety here in the MLB channel.

Let’s work together to promote a sense of belonging for those who currently may feel vulnerable or marginalized.

    Whole night was a disaster.

Dodgers fell behind 3-0 immediately. Unlike last night, they didn't come back -- or even get 3 runs at all.

But it got much worse. Ohtani was kept completely quiet. Betts still couldn't hit -- he's been terrible in the postseason since 2021. Freeman exited in the middle due to his bad ankle acting up.

    But it got much worse.

Betts had a home run robbed from him early in the game by Jurickson Profar. This occurred when Profar reached into the stands and grabbed the ball over the fence -- a legal move -- and away from a fan about to catch it.

    https://twitter.com/MLB/status/1843083864362881376

Some fans yelled at Profar for this, and he yelled back at them. This riled up the ghetto crowd in the bleachers (a perpetually awful group of people, dating back 40+ years), and there was shouting all game between Profar and the fans, and also Tatis and the fans.

This caused some fans to throw baseballs at Profar in the 7th (not sure if these were balls from the game, or ones brought in from outside), causing Profar to understandably freak out and demand this get handled:

    https://twitter.com/StoolBaseball/status/1843113410495701229

Fans also threw trash onto the field from a different area of the outfield, aimed at Tatis.

After a lengthy delay, with the Dodgers down 4-1 and a tiring Yu Darvish out there having his momentum broken, this was a golden opportunity for the Dodgers to come back. However, even though Teoscar Hernandez walked, nobody else got on, and the Dodgers went down quietly.

In the 8th, the Padres broke it open, and then Tatis, who has killed the Dodgers both games, decided to start taunting the fans further. Padres pounded more HR to take a 10-1 9th inning lead.

Whole thing was embarrassing, and shone on a light on the following:

    - Dodgers starting pitching sucks this year

    - Dodgers bullpen, while performing well during the regular season, is mostly nobodies and journeymen

    - Mookie Betts can't hit in the postseason

    - Freddie Freeman is hurting more than he's letting on

    - There is a certain contingent of Dodger fans who are trashy, ghetto, and fight-prone. I don't have to deal with them because I sit in the semi-expensive section and get a good Jew deal on the tickets at the last minute. And they don't typically want to bother me because I'm a middle aged white guy rooting for their own team. But yeah, it's a shitty group of people in those bleachers, and moments like these remind people of it.

With that said, I'm dumb enough to consider going to SD to see game 3.

Oh, and reportedly that video desertrunner posted was old, but was claimed to have been from tonight.

There was an actual fight in the stands during game 1: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ml...red-blood.html

Going up for today's game. The temp dropped significantly from over the weekend. High today low 60s. Hopefully sunny at game time because you get up on the lake and it's markedly cooler. I laughed at my timing as I was at that 15 inning 1-0 Guardians-Rays playoff game two years ago. I looked up the date and that was 10/8. Shouldn't be as bad as that. I have been less cold on sub zero days than I was at that one underdressed, sitting for 5 hours, alcohol being cut off in 7th and then going another 8 innings. I still have a $120 hoodie bought during that one and probably dropped another $200 tipping off duty bartenders to pour me shots to warm up. I miss the days when everyone had flasks before 9/11 security measures took over. At least we won. Hopefully we find some way to scratch out a few runs against Skubal and stay close through 6 and hand it off.
