Time will tell but again I’d be concerned some fallout is coming for Israel over this among folks who are on the fence. I agree something needed to be done but I don’t know if this was the wisest choice.
In the long run the number of new recruits for various resistance groups will far exceed the number injured by this attack. I don't think there will be a major response. I think they will just try and keep the sirens going weekly in israel with various rocket and drone shots until they get their ceasefire in gaza. The cost politically, economically and to the morale of the idf/jews is growing every week this keeps simmering. A hot war is what bibi is desperate for, so don't give him one. Let him die on the vine.

    This won't stoke the fire.

Obviously Hezbollah is going to throw up the white flag and there will be no retaliation from any groups at all.......definitely.

Didn’t make sense as a stand alone act. Not that much devastation for the potential blowback. But it appears, at least according to seemingly reliable sources which are hard to find when the subject is Israel, that IDF is moving quickly to go on the offense in Lebanon.

If true, lends context to yesterdays and this mornings actions with Hezbollah communication devices.

Israel did this to provoke a response. Then it will give them the “justification” to occupy Southern Lebanon.

From what it sounds like, I don’t think they are waiting for a response.

My guess is they figure we already lost the PR battle, we might as well get shit done.

theres a source out there who said israel was concerned someone had discovered one of the bombs so they just cashed them out.

my guess is when they run a serious forensic investigation they will also find listening devices on them.

Thank's to Israel we are entering a new era of security, every fully functional electronic device will have to be treated as a potential explosive.

I know they killed a few and injured quite a few, but I don't see how this was worth the risk of escalation.

No such thing as escalation with terrorists. They don't think like we do.

If they could press a button and kill every Jew today, they would.

The worst thing you can do with terror groups is make nice with them, and hope they will respond in kind. They won't. They'll take it as weakness and see complacency, and get stronger. This exact approach was taken with al-Qaeda in the '90s, when Osama bin Laden was getting increasingly aggressive. Clinton didn't want to "escalate" or get us involved in a major military offensive, so he just fired a few rockets at their base and called it a day. In turn, they saw weakness and planned 9/11.

This pager (and now radio) attack is great because:

    1) It killed/hurt/maimed terrorists with little collateral damage -- something EXTREMELY difficult to do, given their love of human shields

    2) It disrupted their communications

    3) It has made them paranoid to use any electronic device going forward

The way you beat terrorists is to kill them. And if you can't kill them all, the secondary way to beat them is to make them feel fearful, demoralized and destined for failure. Terrorists don't fear death, but they do fear a death which didn't accomplish their goals.

Imagine being able to bring down an airliner with this same method. Hope the "bad guys" never get this sort of technology in their hands, it could single handedly destroy the economy.

To add a 4 to your list.

One thing I wasn’t aware of is that Hezbollah isn’t like Hamas. They don’t share the same popularity within Lebanon. They lose elections unlike Hamas. Lebanon was at one point westernized.

That I all knew. What I didn’t know was that being a member of Hezbollah is very secretive unlike Hamas. Your neighbors didn’t know, and from what I read, most extended family didn’t know when a relative was involved.

So from an intelligence pov, while not all that many died, pretty much all of them are emerging with scars that are going to be hard to explain away if shit goes down and they find themselves in the hands of their enemy. Said Israel was aware of the devices obviously going to Hezbollah, and knew the major players, but knew far less of their foot soldiers.

Now Israel blew up Hezbollah walkie talkies today.

    Love it!

    https://www.reuters.com/world/middle...es-2024-09-18/

It has been reported as "radios", but that is inaccurate. They're actually walkie talkies, which are a form of radio communication, but not known as radios.

Apparently Israel to the US yesterday that something would happen (regarding the pagers), but wasn't specific. The US was just made aware that Israel was going to attack Hezbollah in some way.

The walkie talkies were intercepted at around the same time as the pagers, believed to have been in April 2024.

Hezbollah fired some rockets, but seemed to aim them at unoccupied areas. It seems they're trying to give the impression of a response, while avoiding an all-out war, which they fear they will lose. If that holds true, this will be a win for Israel.

Druff is projecting so hard in this thread. Where did you get that idea of 'pressing the button to kill all Jews?'

For as long as I’ve been alive what you know as “walkie talkies” have been called radios on construction sites. Nearly every trades person has one

    You serve in WWII?

I do remember Radio Shack so there is that.
