Nemo would have had a bright future as a poker influencer, but she fucked up big time. The community doesn't like her, because essentially their intro to her was the scandal where she rigged a giveaway for her poker pro boyfriend, and then had a really condescending/nasty attitude about it.

Some people have a hard time transitioning from the YouTube world to the poker world. The poker world has a lot of smart and critical people, whereas YouTube is filled with kids and morons.

The entire contest rigging was poorly conceived, obvious, and stupid, but I guess it's something that still would have worked with her normal YouTube audience. With the poker community it didn't fly, especially given that the beneficiary of the fake giveaway was her high stakes pro boyfriend. Her subsequent attitude about it was even worse.

I don't think she's going to recover from this, because nobody in poker knew her before that, so this was everyone's first impression. Had she built up some cred in the community first, it wouldn't have been as bad. Now she'll forever be known as "that girl who rigged the contest and was nasty about it".

It's been almost 2 years, but still that's everyone's impression of her.

Agree with your post on Nemo Druff. Not much to add on that. I will say watching celebrities or what passes for “celebrities” these days playing poker is some of the nut lowest entertainment you can find. Glad Vegas Matt won and tbh this Hawk Tuan girl actually seems like a pretty nice & normal girl (for 2024 at least) from a few clips I’ve seen of her when scrolling YT shorts. Vegas Matt winning is great publicity for them, especially compared to one of these slimy stream bros winning.

I will say what I find very strange is it looks like this CPT shit is a cash freeroll. In my lifetime, I can’t think of any “Celebrity” version of a contest not having the winners donate their prizes to the charity of their choice. Whether it be Celebrity Poker, Gameshow, Reality Show, etc…in my experience the winnings always go to charity. I think we all get why they don’t do it here (Nemo & some others prob wouldn’t show), but I think it is interesting they depart from this norm.

But what I don’t really get here is how can this CPT bullshit make any money? It certainly not going to recoup the 50K plus whatever other accommodations they pay for these players with the views it gets on YouTube. What am I missing here? Is this just a vanity project for PokerGo? Networking? Seriously, how does this thing even exist? Someone please help me.

Todd, you are most surely right about Nemo, since you are the King of catching poker fraudsters, but Nemo does still have the GG sponsorship and all the Youtube fans and, well, people may have a short memory about her little poker scandal from 2 years ago. Many people may be unaware that she ever even had a scandal.

Ok I see, Monster Energy sponsors it and probably covers all the costs. The numbers on PokerGo’s YT channel are not the selling point, looks like the other creators post it to their channels and that’s how they get a company like Monster to sponsor it. What is telling to me is the small(ish) view count on the PokerGo YT channel show that it’s not really the typical poker YouTube watcher that finds this stuff entertaining. More so fans of the “celebrities” tuning in to watch some seriously atrocious poker.

Don’t want to speak for Druff, but I think he is talking about the “poker community” that already exists. The whole point of GG hiring someone like Nemo is for the incels who watch her play chess and yank it to her to use part of the money they steal from their Mother’s purse to load on to the poker site instead of using it all on webcam girls.

These guys are largely people not already part of the “poker community”. The people in the know will never respect her because the scam is all they know of her and her lack of contrition makes it a closed case. But she can still draw money from her audience for the sites.

I will admit I don’t think she is a good person, because to my knowledge, she has never truly apologized for rigging that giveaway. I’m guessing the way they handled that it is not the only time she has enriched herself with prizes that were meant to be given away. She was annoyed when I saw have to dredraw the giveaway. Even more suspicious is when she was trying to give it away the first person “declined” a 5 figure package. Leading me to conclude they had even other failsafes involved and this person who “declined” was probably her boyfriend as well.

And the celebs, while C and D listers were at least familiar.

Just looked through the list of players first episode had Ben Affleck, Don Cheadle, Emily Procter, Willie Garson and David Schwimmer….probably the most well known table for the show.
    This.

Jason Alexander was actually a quite competent player back in the mid-2000's.

Any chance of regular radio shows returning? You know, like shows that start during the hours that people are awake? And maybe they include a PFA freeroll? Miss the normal times.
