Don't look now but the NY Mets just snuck into the last NL Wildcard spot. By one percentage point! A few weeks ago they were 11 games out. Let's Go Mets!
end is great.
Been laying off my Tribe lately. Betting a lot of props. Their heads seem to be in the all star break already. But I like the spot today at -110. They’ve been resilient team all year and I think they’ll get their shit together today and their better bullpen arms have gotten some rest.
Edit-Wow this is a miserable streak of cold hitting. First and second and no outs, no score. Second and third with no outs, no score. The Tribe literally can’t score atm.

The truth regarding Evan Phillips. I admit I usually forget
We haven’t been flogging the Dodgers too much this year cause of the obvious.
However, today’s loss was important as it reminds us of an overlooked fact about closer Capt Phillips. Namely, Evan Phillips is only good vs RHB. He is utter ass against LH Batters. Gave up a 2 out 2 run home to a lefty today that allowed the weak Tigers offense to tie the game and ultimately win.
This picture cracks me up.
I dunno if Dodgers actually recognize this is a “win now” year as I do. Or care tbh. They will always fill seats like the Cubs did. Who really knows?
Ohtani is simply amazing. Every damn game. I’d still have to insta take Bumgarner at this point but I honestly want Shohei to log some playoff heroics and lock up the GOAT. I want to say I lived though it. I want to be a witness to goat mode magic.
Sadly, he plays on the wrong team and his pitching coach is a menace. Buehler is a cautionary tale. The Dodgers are nowhere close to a team built to succeed in a tournament. Can he carry this defective organization on his back. Maybe
Dodgers pitcher Dustin May has season-ending surgery on esophagus
I suspect Mark Prior invited him to dinner.
So weird.
I read the injury was not baseball related.
How do you tear your esophagus? So strange.
I did have an esophagus injury once. It was in 1989. One of the worst weeks of my life, at least physically. I was 17 years old, and I got a REALLY bad flu. In fact, my 103.5 fever was the last time I had a 103+ fever until 2021, when it happened three times (twice from the COVID vaccine, once from a dental infection).
But back to the esophagus. I had a brutal sore throat -- one of the two worst in my life (the other about 3 years later when I had mono) -- and for that reason I could barely eat. Well, a few days into it I was very hungry because of barely eating, and my mom said the family ate turkey cutlets earlier, and she saved one for me. So I told her to heat it up.
Well you know the microwave, it heats stuff unevenly. This turkey cutlet was super hot inside but a normal temperature outside. Due to my hunger, I bit off a big piece and swallowed it without chewing it enough, and without noticing how hot it was. It then slowly went down my throat and bured my esophagus all the way down. One of the most painful things ever.
This plus the sore throat wiped out my voice for about week.
But unlike our friend Dustin May, no surgery was necessary, and it fully healed.
San, great observation about Evan Phillips. I never noticed before how he's not very good against LH batters -- at least this year.
That might explain why we didn't see him close at either of the live games we attended this year. Both were close, save situations. One we got Dinelson Lamet (lol) the day before he was released. The other we got Alex Vesia. Phillips was rested and available both days. These games were almost 2 months apart. Both ended up with Dodgers wins and the fill-in closer saving it.
Ben was annoyed we didn't get Phillips either time, but maybe it was for the best.

As long as JRam is engaging in this selfish exhibition let’s use this opportunity to express some Cleveland > LA for profit
Teoscar = LAD Teoscar Hernandez
I offer these fun bets during this wagering eclipse
Yeah, there is some fandom at work here but I can find support in the numbers. Disclsure: I’m a regular Gunnar Henderson bettor.
It’s all DK. There is a DK 50% promo too. You can get JRam total 5 cents cheaper on FD but not going big so doesn’t matter
R1: Jram > Teoscar +120
R1: Jram > Bohm -125
R1: Adolis > Teoscar -145
R1: Adolis > Witt +120
R1: Gunnar > Witt -105
R1: Gunnar > Ozuna +100
R1: Witt Jr o21.5 -120
R1: Gunnar o21.5 -120
R1: Jram o19.5 -120
R1: Alonso o24.5 -120
Lemme know if you’re in on anything. Friends don’t let friends bet distance or other nonsense.
Alonso brought back his bp thrower for this year, even though he works for the Nats now. Hard to bet against that.
Would go Gunnar or Witt otherwise. Youth.
Does Bohm get the celebrity softball fences?
well, the Dodgers got their championship for the year.
My slip suffered complete carnage.
Somebody mentioned Josh Hamilton midway through the event. He said he wished the Derby was still run like the old days. Leave it to ESPN & MLB to fuck things up.
I knew the Josh Hamilton story but I didn’t quite appreciate how legendary his Derby appearance was. 13 straight HR iirc. First HR 513 feet. The game was so damn easy for him.
The sound his bat made was insta-compared to Bo Jackson.
I ended up deep diving Hamilton more than watching Teo. I thought the contest was meh. Props to Teo’s pitcher, Dodger 3rd base coach Dino Ebel. He is a good guy on a bad team.
So Josh Hamilton is drafted #1 & collects $5m. He gets hurt in a car accident with his parents. His parents had never missed one of his games. Hamilton hurts his back and discovers drugs and tattoos while he is on IR. Josh is basically out of baseball for 4 years. You know who offered him a chance back into the game? Andrew Friedman. Friedman lets him slip through his fingers cause he’s an idiot and Hamilton proceeds to go nuts like he never missed a day.
I saw Trea Turner near Teo. I just had to smile. Why would Dodgers want a speedy shortstop with pop. Save money with the budget $400m shortstop they had this year?
This is insane - FanDuel
Bet $5 and get MLB.TV for free until Sept 1
![]()
They still stalk about ‘99 Pedro 25 years later so maybe Skenes has a shot at MVP.
You can get Skenes 2+ strikeouts +170 with Fanduel promo, Free MLB.TV and a suit from Men’s Warehouse
Who knows, kid could throw an immaculate inning and your +2000 MVP comes home.
That's actually pretty good -- though it's only for 1.5 months.
It's too late now, but anyone with TMobile can sign up for a FREE MLB.TV subscription for the full season. It's a small window usually starting in late March. It's a bit of pain in the ass, and the procedure is confusing, but once it's established it's a legit free year.
I had a buddy with TMobile (who doesn't care about baseball) do it for me and give me his MLB account after.
Didn’t really dawn on me only 1.5 months til Sept 1. My sense of time is the polar opposite of yours.
I don’t have a highly superior autobiographical memory like you but I remember October 2018. Where I was and the enjoyment I had.
Sawks vs Dodgers coming outta the All Star Break. Rematch of the 2018 World Series. Seems like yesterday to me. Surely the wound is still fresh despite all those years, Druff.
Sawks already know their starters. ‘Nuff said.
Pretty good matchup of two mid teams
