J Redick is facing allegations from a Black woman who said the head coach called her the N-word during his college career at Duke in the early 2000s. The accusation came from entrepreneur Halleemah Nash in a recent post on X.
In the post, Nash writes, “I’ve only been called the N-word to my face by a white man once in my life, and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team. And today, he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.” According to her LinkedIn page, Nash coordinated an initiative called the “Blue Devil Inner City Youth Project” with Duke’s basketball team from August 2003 to August 2004.

Redick was announced as the Lakers’ coach earlier this week and has faced criticism for this allegation and his lack of coaching experience, as reported by the Daily Mail. In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Redick denied the claims and said, “No, it never happened.”

You left off that Lebron wanted him as well. Owner + Lebron means he gets hired. Steve Kerr didn't do shit before he was hired as head coach either. The trend now is former players in basketball get hired, college and pro. Won't last forever but that is the trend now.

The botching of the Hurley courtship and subsequent hire of JJ is evidence to me that the Buss family should sell the team and move on.

The Jerry West thing is still personal for Jeannie since it was really the beef with Phil that caused the rift. The way the Buss family treated him was pretty despicable.

As far as I know about the trust, she runs the show and the other siblings are pretty content with their roles in operations. One of them runs the G League team and they cast Jimmy aside to do his own thing. Basically paid him to go away.

Regarding Reddick- he interviewed last year with the Toronto Raptors, and reportedly was close to getting the job. Spent the last 2 years (when he wasn’t podcasting) traveling around watching how current NBA coaches game plan, run practice etc. Way out of my realm of knowledge but apparently in coaching circles and within GM circles, he was thought of as someone with the aptitude to potentially be a really good coach. It’s silly now to say this but there was backlash when both Jason Kidd and Steve Kerr got head coaching jobs without any prior coaching (even as assistants) experience. Lol Kerr was even panned for taking the GSW job over the Knick’s job, which he was offered as well.

Regarding Jim Buss, after the father died it was in his will that Jeannie would be the governor of the team, hence the final decision maker. Towards the end and then immediately after the Kobe era both Jim Buss and GM Kupchak made some absolutely bonehead decisions. Lakers hadn’t made the playoffs in 4 years and Jeannie issued an ultimatum to them both.

That offseason they lololol signed Luel Deng and Timofey Mozgov to absolutely ridiculous, I mean ridiculously overpaid contracts as their marquee offseason free agent signings.

The team was terrible the following year. Didn’t make the playoffs and Jeannie followed through on her promise and fired both her brother and Kupchak.

The brother sued Jeannie but either lost in court or dropped the suit (can’t remember which) because it was reportedly iron clad that her father instilled her to be the governor and make all final decisions. According to the media, Jeanne and Jim are still an estranged to this day.

Steve Kerr is an incredibly overrated coach, but he still was a 5x champion as a player and had 7 years prior experience as an executive for the Suns.

Jason Kidd is a former champion and hall of famer who was widely regarded to be one of the best basketball minds in the game in his playing days. It wasn't much of a stretch for him to go from someone who ran the offense on the floor to the sidelines, but still that didn't work out initially for the Nets.

The situations are not at all comparable. If he wasn't friends with LeBron and a co-host of his podcast he wouldn't have this job. JJ was an average player with zero experience as an executive or a coach. In his TV appearances he comes across as somewhat of a midwit. It's a joke. The team has been completely hijacked. Reports are circulating that they are getting ready to draft LeBron's son with the 55th pick. There are high school teams he wouldn't start for.
