    Disney's Snow White remake disaster

This tweet inspired me to look up Snow White and was again amazed at how much BIG WOKENESS hurt this project:

2020: Filming delayed due to rona panic.

Oct. 2022: Snow White actress Rachel Zegler says she hates white people and she's going to make the new movie so PC that people will vomit.

Jan. 2022: Peter Dinklage says casting dwarves is insulting to the dwarf community.
-- Other dwarves who are NOT Peter Dinklage get mad at him because they very selfishly enjoy having jobs and also point out Dinklage bought two private islands with his money from his cameo in Elf.

Sept. 2022: Disney says Snow White will hit theaters in March 2024.

July 2023: Disney fires all the dwarves and replaces them with CGI bullshit.
-- Jason "Wee Man" Acuna bashes Disney, points out that firing dwarves doesn't really help them.

Early Aug. 2023: Zegler says she hates the Snow White story. Also says she hates men, calls Prince Charming a stalker, says the movie is going to be 2.7 hours of girl boss slogans.

Late Aug 2023: Son of original Snow White director says his father is turning over in his grave and movie will suck balls.

Dec. 2023: Zegler says the CGI dwarves scared her. Hahahaha.

2024: Endless reshoots of Snow White to make it less woke or something, I guess they are removing the scene where Hillary Clinton shows up and gives a 90 minute speech about trade policy.

March 2024: Snow White is not in theaters.

May 2024: Zegler says it has been the hardest year of her life, like ever, because people disagreed with her.

March 2025: Disney says Snow White will definitely be in the theaters now and that all delays were due to the writers strike which makes no sense because the script was finished about five years before the strike occurred. No one believes Disney but also no one seems to care because lying is now just part of our social fabric. Zegler is still crying about how people are mean to her.

Daily Wire is attempting to make their own non-woke version of Snow White, starring host Brett Cooper, which is likely to be awful. They're just not good at Hollywood-style entertainment, but they delusionally believe they are.

But this isn't about Daily Wire. It's about Disney and their complete fuckup of Snow White. The dwarf thing by itself was hilarious.

They didnt learn their lesson from the idiocy they pulled with the Little Mermaid clearly. Last decent Disney live action remake was probably Beauty and the Beast.

What is the end goal of corrupting pretty much all things European? Disney was built upon making respectable interpretations of European fairy tales, but the company itself is pretty much entirely a mockery of this and Walt Disney's vision now. It's insane. It's becoming more and more difficult to not believe the conspiritards who have been saying that this has been part of a much larger intentional plot all along. Can a multi-billion dollar company honestly keep doing this to themself?

I've seen this quote which is falsely attributed to Tolkien posted often. It is actually just a summary of his themes and some actual quotes from his literature, but it applies to modern Disney perfectly: Evil cannot create anything new, it can only corrupt and ruin what good men have invented and created (or something like that). I'm not a Christian, but I think I will consider converting when they eventually make Jesus an Avenger played by a transgender half South Asian/half black woman.

Looking into it I cannot find any such quote from Peter Dinklage.
He did say this talking to Marc Maron
They were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." (West Side Story star Rachel Zegler was announced to play Snow White this past summer.) Dinklage continued, saying, "Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. Because you’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that fucking backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the fuck are you doing, man?”

That’s it. Nothing about dwarves being insulted. He just pointed out that the announced lead for Snow White is a Latina actress, a progressive move in his opinion, but the dwarf roles receive no such attention.

An off the cuff statement for sure but he does not say the dwarf community has been insulted period.

Hum... well, I have a lot of remarks regarding everything on the Snow White topic. I need to be up at 5:30am so I shouldn't even be on here, but I am having a hard time sleeping so I figured I would pop in and give some commentary.

The thread title is correct. The Snow White Disney remake is indeed a disaster, and has been for quite some time. I can tell you how I see it, from an insider's perspective. Note that I do not work for or with Disney, so I am only a Hollywood insider, not a Disney insider.

One longtime fact of Hollywood is that the creatives there have largely been far left of center. Prior to the last 15 years or so, this hasn't been much of an issue. While subtle left wing messages have long been snuck into films and television, it has rarely been overt enough to seriously damage the wide appeal. While stars would occasionally publicly rant about their left wing opinions, they tended to stop short of condemning those who disagreed with them, and were careful not to attack America itself. In the few occurrences of a star appearing to cross a political line enough to damage their appeal, they suffered from it and learned quickly. Recall that many people still see Jane Fonda as "Hanoi Jane", 53 years after she was photographed sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun.

Starting from around 2010, the creatives started to feel emboldened to both share highly controversial opinions and pressure the studio to allow them to push their agenda through their work. Executives weren't thrilled about this, as their concern was the success of the studio, which almost always put their politics second. However, once it became the norm for a large number of employees to demand the ability to intermesh their politics within their work, studios felt little choice. They felt as if they couldn't alienate everyone at the company, so they had to give somewhat.

There was no studio where this was worse than Disney. It's not that Disney's executives and managements were fanatical leftists. It's that Disney fostered a culture among creative employees that they were actually the ones in control, and where a vocal fanatic minority of employees eventually transformed into a vocal fanatic majority. Recall Disney's involvement in unfairly calling condemning Ron Desantis' so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill. That was a good example. Disney had nothing to gain by joining that brouhaha, and half their audience to lose. Still, executives felt their backs were against the wall, and that they'd be dealing with mass resignations and an ugly PR situation if they did not make a statement condemning DeSantis.

During the past 5 years or so, we've seen Disney employees emboldened to levels I never thought were possible. Writers, producers, and directors were outright stating that their material had direct anti-white agendas, and that other films/programs were indeed pushing LGBT propaganda onto children. The subtlety was gone. The inclusive, progressive, subtle subversiveness was over. Today's creatives were flat out telling everyone that Disney's material would be working to indoctrinate children with left wing values, and if the parents didn't like it, tough noogies.

Predictably, the right aggressively called this out, and clutched their pearls. This had some mixed success. At times, the right's screaming was ignored, and Disney productions succeeded despite the objections. Other times, the material did flop, especially in productions which were poorly written or produced, thus shining a more uncomfortable spotlight upon the gratuitous wokeness.

November 2024, however, was somewhat of a turning point. It showed that, for the moment, the right won their culture war. The left had overplayed its hand over the past decade, and the all-important middle was completely sick of it. The general public began to crave simplicity, reality, and common sense. They weren't necessarily enamored with Trump and all of his antics. They just were tired of walking on eggshells, ignoring obvious truths for fear of being cancelled, and feigning outrage at the phony oppression or victimization story of the day.

I guess I'm rambling now. I blame it on exhausted delirium. I'll continue in the next post.

How much does Hollywood hate white people?

They're not stupid, they think being antiwhite is more important than profits.
I'm actually surprised Whoopi Goldberg wasn't cast as Snow White.

Snow White could not have been released at a worse time.

It honestly represented all of the abhorrent and off-putting attributes of today's impractical, social leftism.

They felt that casting a white lead in a remake would somehow be bigoted or regressive, so they chose a dark-skinned Colombian woman to play Snow White, a character literally named after her pale, light complexion.

They let Peter Dinklage, of all people, shame them into believing that featuring dwarves was furthering a negative stereotype of those with dwarfism, even though Dinklage's entire career exists because he's 4'5". They responded by firing all of the dwarf actors, and replacing them with unsettling CGI characters living right in the uncanny valley.

They bizarrely cast a beautiful woman, Gal Gadot, to play the role of the Evil Queen, who was supposed to be jealous of Snow White's beauty. That's the equivalent of making a 1990s film where Brad Pitt plays a guy jealous of Cheech Marin's good looks. You aren't supposed to notice that Gal Gadot, even when made up as the Evil Queen, is more attractive than Rachel Zegler. If you even think this, you're a racist, and therefore must banish such considerations from your head.

Worst yet, they gave Rachel Zegler the freedom to shoot her mouth off for years, doing irreparable damage to the film in ways I've never seen a star even consider. She expressed a complete hatred of the original story, where she called Snow White's love interest a "stalker", and bragged that the modern film would anger those who were expecting anything like the original. She didn't just criticize Trump, but said terrible things about the half of the country who voted for him. She overtly supported Palestine after the 10/7 attacks, and infamously clashed with Gadot, an Israeli, about them. How did Disney not have language in the contract prohibiting Zegler from badmouthing anything related to the movie, its characters, or its original source material? They need to fire the lawyers who drew up that contract. The studio should have had a muzzle on Zegler, who was not otherwise a huge star, and did not have the clout to refuse to sign a speech-restricting contract.

But that's where we get our problem. Disney did not muzzle Zegler for the same reason that they didn't refuse the employee demands to get involved in the DeSantis matter. For a long time, Disney let the inmates run the asylum, to where it became the norm, and the executives had corporate Stockholm Syndrome.

It's not like Disney did not know what was coming. They didn't screen a normal early premiere for critics, but instead handpicked longtime sycophants to attend. They backed away from having Zegler promote the movie. They were relatively certain it would flop, and too much damage had been done.

Disney wishes they could go back and do things differently, but it was too late. Zegler's involvement itself was toxic enough, so the only way to reverse Snow White's fortunes would be trashing the entire film and starting over, which they clearly weren't going to do. They're in hangover mode right now, and I'm not referring to the charming 2000s film about shenanigans in Vegas. Basically the studio got drunk with wokeness, and now they just have to endure the hangover and wait for it to lift.

There will not be another Disney mistake like Snow White. They are going to learn from this. They already have learned, but they couldn't bring this train back into the station.

Does this mean the right's current gloating tour is correct? Is this going to be an epic disaster, and a flop of unimaginable proportions? Were those theater seatmap pics from opening night, showing 3 out of 150 seats filled, accurate? Is literally no one attending this film? I will answer that in my conclusion post next.

I've saw the break even point estimated to be anywhere from 500 to 700 million, with most around 650 million based on production costs, advertising budget, and the theaters cut of ticket sales. If this is true we're looking at a potential all time box office bomb.

Estimating the **box office break-even point** for a movie involves more than just comparing the production budget to the box office gross. You need to account for marketing costs, distribution fees, exhibitor splits (theaters), and sometimes backend deals with talent. Here's a step-by-step breakdown:

    ---

    ### **1. Start with the Production Budget**
This includes all costs related to making the movie: cast, crew, sets, post-production, etc.

    - Example: $100 million

    ---

    ### **2. Add Marketing and Distribution Costs**
Marketing (often called "P&A" – prints and advertising) can be significant. For a wide release, it might range from **50% to 100%** of the production budget.

    - Conservative estimate: $50 million (if using 50% of production budget)

    ---

    ### **3. Calculate Total Costs**
**Total Cost = Production Budget + Marketing Costs**

    - Example: $100M (production) + $50M (marketing) = **$150M total cost**

    ---

    ### **4. Factor in the Theatrical Revenue Split**
Studios don’t keep 100% of the box office gross. On average:

    - In the U.S./Canada, studios keep about **50-55%**
    - Internationally, it's lower — around **40% or less**, depending on country

A typical rule of thumb is the studio keeps about **45% of the global box office gross**.

    ---

    ### **5. Estimate the Required Box Office Gross**
    To break even:

    **Break-Even Gross = Total Costs ÷ Studio’s Average Share**

    - Using the earlier example:
$150M ÷ 0.45 = **$333 million** needed at the global box office to break even.

    ---

    ### **6. Optional Adjustments**
    - **Home media, streaming, TV rights**: These can help offset costs, especially if the movie underperforms theatrically.
    - **Backend deals**: Stars or directors might get a cut of profits, increasing costs.
    - **Tax incentives/rebates**: May lower actual production costs.

    ---

    ### TL;DR Formula
    **Break-Even Gross = (Production Budget + Marketing Costs) ÷ 0.45**

Want to try this with a real or hypothetical movie? I can walk you through the numbers.

Alright — if $255 million is your production budget, let’s estimate the box office break-even point based on that.

    Step 1: Estimate Marketing & Distribution (P&A)

Let’s assume 50% of the production budget for marketing:
    • $255M × 0.5 = $127.5M

    Step 2: Total Costs
    • $255M (production) + $127.5M (marketing) = $382.5M

Step 3: Apply the Studio’s Average Revenue Share

Studios typically keep 45% of global box office grosses:
    • $382.5M ÷ 0.45 = ~$850M

    Estimated Break-Even Point: $850 million

That’s approximately how much the movie would need to make worldwide at the box office to break even.

Let me know if you want to run a more conservative or aggressive scenario (e.g., higher marketing, lower studio share, etc.).

Definitely — if 70% of the box office revenue comes from the U.S. and Canada (domestic), we can refine the break-even estimate using region-specific studio shares.

    Step 1: Total Costs

    Same as before:
    • Production: $255M
    • Marketing (50% estimate): $127.5M
    • Total Costs: $382.5M

Step 2: Studio Share by Region
    • Domestic (U.S./Canada): studio keeps ~55%
    • International (30% of revenue): studio keeps ~40%

    Let’s define:
    • Total global gross = X
    • Domestic = 70% of X = 0.70X
    • International = 30% of X = 0.30X

Now calculate what the studio keeps:
    • From domestic: 0.70X × 0.55 = 0.385X
    • From international: 0.30X × 0.40 = 0.12X
    • Total studio revenue = 0.385X + 0.12X = 0.505X

Step 3: Solve for Break-Even Gross

We want the studio to recoup $382.5M:
    • 0.505X = 382.5
    • X = 382.5 ÷ 0.505 = ~$757.4M

    Adjusted Break-Even Estimate: ~$757 million

So if 70% of the gross is domestic, your break-even box office drops from $850M to about $757M — because the studio keeps more from domestic earnings.

    .......................

This type of thing is what ChatGPT pro excels at. I would bet that 750 million is even conservative given how they've drug this out and tried to market this movie. All time fail.

The right is basking in I-told-you-so glory, but they're not as correct as they think they are.

One thing that annoys me about today's right is how much they love outrage bait. It's not enough to point out that they successfully brought enough negative word of mouth about this film to where it choked on its own wokeness. It's not enough to point out that it had the second-worst opening of any live action Disney film in quite some time. It's not enough to point out that they were correct all along about Snow White, its entire vibe, and Zegler's immature entitlement.

Instead, they resort to gross exaggeration, as per usual. I saw screen shot after screen shot of Friday night movie theater seatmaps on X, showing an almost empty theater. It appeared as if Snow White would struggle to make $1 million, let alone $100 million. If on opening night, of all times, Snow White is filling 3% of available seats, is this going to be the worst flop of all time? It would have to be, right?

    Not exactly.

Snow White, when you peel away all of the recent controversy, is a kids' film. Much of the audience is likely to be women taking their kids to see it. If you look carefully, these Friday night screen shots tended to be the 10:30pm showing, far later than any young children would be seeing movies, even on Friday. Also, these seatmaps were screenshot far in advance, sometimes over 24 hours prior to screening, which also isn't fair. It would be like judging attendance at Yankee Stadium based upon who shows up 90 minutes before the game. Finally, people tend not to reserve seats as often if it's a showing not likely to be busy. I would not feel the need to prepay for seats at a 10:30pm film aimed at kids.

It appears that Snow White made $42 million domestically from Thursday through Sunday, and picked up another $45 million internationally. That's $87 million right off the bat, for a $270 million film. Of course, the theaters keep about 40% of the money from ticket sales, meaning the studio's $270 million expenditure would only be recouped if the film took in $450 million in box office, which is unlikely. Perhaps it's a little less because Disney tends to keep more than 60% of box office revenue in the first few weeks.

However, the money doesn't end at the box office. There will be DVD sales, merchandising, release to television and/or other streaming services (even if just the ones owned by Disney), and other areas which will bring in revenue.

It is my belief that Snow White will probably just barely fall short of breaking even for the studio, once everything is said and done. That's not to say that's a success, even if it does break even. Disney doesn't make films to break even. They could have done a lot of other things with that investment, and with their time/effort put into the entire project. Most importantly, this project further damaged their already slipping brand. For a very long time, Disney was inoffensive, apolitical, and revered by nearly everyone, regardless of their belief systems. Now Disney has largely alienated a large portion of potential customers, and the effects of that will be felt for a long time.

If I were in charge of Disney, I would just bear down, put out some mea culpas, and reverse direction. Admit that the company made a mistake getting involved in political and social controversy, and commit to returning to producing wholesome, apolitical family entertainment. You'lll have a few people on the left kvetching that Disney is kissing the Trump ring, but the public is sick of hearing about things like this. Disney should not attempt to appease the right by releasing films with a conservative political message, but instead just return to their roots of completely keeping politics away from their work. This plus the concession that they lost the script for the past decade, so to speak, will probably bring back most of the defectors.

I'm afraid the above is incorrect. See my amateurish ballparking breakdown in my last post.

My guess is $450m would break even just from box office, but they will bring back a lot from future sales of DVDs, etc.

$270m is estimated to be the total cost to the studio for the picture, from what I've heard. This includes marketing.

I do want to put a caveat onto what I am predicting.

This film has very bad word of mouth. Not only is it and Rachel Zegler surrounded by negative controversy, but critics generally think that the movie itself is lousy. If this were a good movie with a bad message and unlikable person playing the title role, its fortunes might be different.

It would not surprise me if Snow White falls off a cliff in the coming weeks, and does not break $200m globally.

Even then, they will pick up enough on the backend from DVDs and whatever else, to where they will not lose a fortune.

From what I've read, the production budget was pushed to the 240-270 million range before any marketing costs.

At least they will not have to worry about Daily Wire outdoing them.

The Snow White by Daily Wire is a dead project, a casualty of their separation with expected star Brett Cooper.

DVD sales? Harry this is 2025. DVD sales peaked in 2004-2007. They have plummeted since then and are negligible now, Harry.
