    Anyone for a Boeing flight?

    No big deal... just 7,000 jets need retrofitting due to a flaw which caused a death on a Southwest Airlines 737-700 last year.

    This comes after the 737 Max planes were grounded after two major crashes which were related to bad design.

    What a clusterfuck this once-respected company has become.

    Sadly I have a long flight booked (round trip) on a Boeing in 2020. Fortunately it's not a 737.

    I fly on Boeing almost weekly and have no qualms doing so. Flying on a 737-500 tonight

    Tbf i didn't read the link but is there anyone who really believes that Boeing would murder whistleblowers.
    Here's what happened, a suicidAL disgruntled whistleblower wants to call attention to boeing so he decided to announce he's not suicidal to anyone and everyone
    before commiting suicide. Figure it out.

    I missed the northern lights (except for a very weak version of it in LA) thanks to Boeing.

    I tried to book flights to Seattle or Vancouver, but all flights were on Boeing.

    Even worse, almost all of them were on 737 MAX or 737-900. Both have had all kinds of problems.

    Fuck that shit.

    There were a few 737-800 flights but they were way too expensive to be worth it. It's amazing how much cheaper flights are if they're on a 737-900 or 737 MAX. Supply/demand theory takes over, and it basically becomes a risk-your-life discount.

    The right is claiming it's a DEI thing, but that's only partially true. The DEI stuff at Boeing is just a symptom of a greater problem there -- a large, longstanding company which became overly bureaucratic and thought they were too big to fail.

    Whether they're murdering whistleblowers is up for debate, but it's not far fetched. Remember, eBay was recently found to have been guilty of terrorizing a Massachusetts couple from across the country (and even traveling there to physically stalk them) because they ran a lightly-viewed blog which was critical of the company. Imagine what a big corporation would do to a whisteblower who massively hurt them.

    The other day I was watching documentary about the Boeing that disappeared over the Phillepines. Gave three scenarios. Either faulty equipment with decompression air, terrorists there where 2 passengers they couldn't identify or pilot suicide. Pieces of the plane washed up but plane itself was never found

    There are so many private equity vultures feeding on the corpse of Boeing, too many to post but to get to the root cause of the current debacle.

    Worst Druff take ever. You missed something you wanted to see over a fear that the odds of an issue are astronomical? Seems like a bad take for a guy who makes his living calculating odds and exploiting them.

    I have flown a lot in my life but have never once looked or cared what type of aircraft I was on

    I have been on a lot of flights this year, not too many but several trips so far all flying, and no clue if i have flown on Boeing or not, I think every flight i have taken is with jet blue are their planes boing?

    A current Boeing employee claims that the company tried to shield broken or out-of-specification 737 MAX plane parts from regulators and lost track of them, according to a Senate subcommittee investigation made public Tuesday. Boeing tried to hide the nonconforming parts from Federal Aviation Administration regulators by moving them out of sight and falsifying records, claims Sam Mohawk, the new whistleblower who works for Boeing quality assurance unit.

    Not only are these 737 MAX planes dangerous, but they have made flying a lot more difficult and expensive in 2024. The public has become aware enough of the issues to where they avoid the troubled 737 MAX and 737-900 planes, thus creating additional demand for flights using other planes. Additionally, Boeing had to cease production, so now many airlines are short on planes and had to cancel flights. That forces up demand even more.

    Isn't it nice that flying was safer, cheaper, and easier in the 1980s than today?

    Certainly wasn’t safer, adjusted for inflation wasn’t cheaper, only thing you have is easier. Thanks Bin Laden!

    A simple search shows the amount of airline crashes in both the US and worldwide involving commercial airlines is way down since the 80’s. I remember major crashes here a couple times a year back then. Now the last major airline crash in the US was just after 9/11 in Queens, almost 23 years ago. After that was the commuter crash outside Buffalo in 2009, 15 years ago.

    Okay, forget the '80s. To be honest, I wasn't buying my own flights then (my dad did it), so I didn't keep track of the prices well. I know the prices did fall big time after the deregulation of (I think) 1983.

    It's definitely more expensive now than 10 years ago. I was taking a lot of trips then because Ben was too young to be in school, so I could basically travel with the family at any time. Nowadays I have to mainly dance around the school schedule. But I got a LOT of cheap and fairly cheap airfares, and I am shocked at what I see nowadays, even adjusting for the big inflation we've seen over the past 4 years.

    I'd have to say it was safer in 2014 versus today as well, as these Boeing issues we're seeing now weren't likely as prominent. It looks like starting the late 2010s. the corporate culture there became extremely toxic, hence all the recent issues we're seeing. Note that these claims don't go back more than 10 years.

    I'm not flying Boeing 737s. Not doing it. Imagine taking one, and then it's crashing down due to one of these failures, and you realize you could have avoided it by just booking another plane type.

    I was on an Air Zimbabwe 707 once. That was pretty sketch.

    Wifey and I are planning a trip to Montana soon. She specifically is looking at the flights to see which ones are on 737s to avoid them. She never did this before all this stuff in the news came out recently. Should I tell her that the flights we booked to Vegas in August are on 737s?
