Phantom of the Opera, is coming to a close I saw at 15 years ago or so. Couldn't make it past the Covid. I really enjoyed it.
It's already played in London for a little while, and it's very well liked. People praised the special effects, especially the way the car looks when it travels "88 mph".
I have moderate interest in seeing this, but only if it comes to LA or Vegas.
It's cool for research purposes. Don't dismiss this, there's a shitload of coincidences
I really thought the soundtrack was underated. Huey Lewis did an amazing job to capture the fun and excitement of the movie. Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

I would have preferred a 2015 30 year Anniversary Remake where Marty who lives in present day 2015 goes back to the past to 1985. Maybe have Michael J Fox play Marty's Father and Tracy play Marty's Mother. And Lea Thompson and George Crispin play Marty's Grandparents. It would have been cool to have seen present day 2015 vs the outdated 2015 they predicted in Back to To The Future Part 2 in 1989. Hmm. They probably would have made Marty a female and called her Martina or Martine.

I might actually go see this. Would be the first play I see in a long time. I hope they casted a younger Marty. I don't want to see Marty McFly in his 30s pretending to be in high school.

“Still” the Apple documentary about Michael J Fox was fantastic. Changed the way I saw Fox and thought about Parkinson’s. I learned a ton of interesting trivia about ‘80’s/‘90’s Michael J Fox
I had no opinion about Fox the actor before seeing the doc. I saw the trailer one night and I was hooked.
Fox is brutally honest about his career and who he was as a person. He admits to being an ass. When I was done watching I ended up liking the guy quite a bit for his honesty and candor about his circumstance. I appreciated his wife’s character even more. She was a regular on his Facts of Life show.

It's cute that you, a guy somewhere near my age, remember Michael J. Fox as being on "Facts of Life" instead of "Family Ties". Maybe you're really 35 and in disguise.
With that said, no, Harry has not posted about Michael J. Fox. I can ask him if he knows anything interesting and to come out here and post it.
I never heard anything bad about Fox. I felt bad for him regarding the early life Parkinson's. It's one thing to get that when you're 80 (which Biden might have, btw). It's another to get it as a young man.
I absolutely loved Back to the Future. I loved it even more because it was a pleasant surprise. My best friend and I were at the mall one weekend in 1985, and thought the poster looked cool, and we liked Michael J. Fox, so we bought tickets. There was no hype about the movie yet. It had barely been marketed, and was not selling out.
When we walked out, the first thing my friend said was, "That was awesome!", and I agreed. Sure enough, positive word of mouth made the movie huge in its second weekend, and it ended up being one of the top grossing films of 1985. The studio expected somewhere between a flop and a middling performance at the box office.
Because of the 1950s setting, the sci-fi element, and the plot revolving mostly around high schoolers, it appealed a lot to both adults and kids. It also had some very well written climactic scenes like this one, which still inspire emotion when you watch today:

Had Wendi for years in dead pools in the late 90’s-early 00’s but she seemed to have kicked the cancer multiple times only for her to score points after I gave up on her. Loved her on Bosom Buddies and in Used Cars (great movie) and Moving Violations (not so good but had Sally Kellerman). She lost a lot of weight later in life and looked good, on the outside obviously.
Fox is still very popular in DP’s to this day but like Jimmy Carter, he has ruined them for decades. He’s not in the top 10 of the stiffs.com pool this year but only 3 of 10 are wnners YTD, but 3 months to go.

I saw Huey Lewis and the News perform after an Albuquerque Dukes triple A baseball game. Huey was an all-state college baseball player and combined his love of the game with love of performing at ballparks all around the country.

Decided to break down and buy tickets to take Ben to see this.
Ben has relatively little interest in 1980s music or culture, much to my dismay. He sees it as ancient history. I guess it makes sense, because the 1980s to him is like the 1940s to me. He still has a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that the '80s had microwaves, home computers, home video game systems, and that I met girls online back then.
Anyway, one of the few '80s movies he's seen was Back to the Future. So I'm taking him. Was a pain in the ass researching the theater and figuring out which seats are good and which suck (and which are best value for the money), but I did it.
I'll post a review after I go. I have fairly good seats and should have a good enough view of the stage to see the special effects well.

And Alan Silvestri's score was outstanding!
From Power of Love to Johnny B. Goode, the set pieces, costumes and 50's motif should be a good lesson for Ben to learn how music evolved from the 50's onward!
