I think we're very close to that point too, Entropy. Since there is not one thing I can do about it I've decided on an early spring New England poker tour. I've been playing a lot in Salem, NH and now Foxwoods has finally begun to offer free rooms again so this week I'll be there a few days. Fuck it, right? I'm too old to re-enlist in the army and I don't think sending money to people running from bombs is necessarily a wise choice. Side note: I will not be playing in Boston at the Sanlamar described boondoggle at Encore Boston Harbor because of the $10 rake and because I generally hate that place for closing down what was a rival of Foxwoods pre pandemic. Oh, and the Foxwood bad beat might be up to 400k by now.

When I played poker down there back in 2008 I used to have a black players card. They used to swipe you in but never clocked you out. (My memory of those days is fuzzy rarely think about them). I remember hustling back to the poker room at 3:00am (?)and walking up to the desk to log out and “say good night”. That was when they closed out the fiscal day.

I was earning 20+ hours a day in comps. Black card had a higher rate. Free rooms. Oddly, one of my favorite memories was buffet breakfast every day. I’d wake up just before it closed. Omelette station. Read the USA Today newspaper. I recall stories about Brady lighting up the league that year. Fruit & everything imaginable so I didn’t have to take a lunch. It was such a simple luxury. The waitresses all knew me.
The pleasure of the newspaper. I saw my first iPhone at a poker table there. My neighbor in the next seat showed me. That’s how long ago those days were. 2008. Crazy huh?
It was the worlds largest poker room at the time. 100+ tables and a waiting list.
I haven’t been back in years. It was a unique time. Even a clown like me could win. Need a trip report Country. Ghost town? They have a sports book?
