By not censoring even in a minimalist fashion, you have tacitly laid the foundation for an alt-right poker site. Now, I don’t personally think the majority of this site’s posters are deplorable racists, but I can easily see why an outsider would get that impression. Why would they bother posting in a hostile environment? This is the reason why the vast majority of free speech sites on the internet are dominated by white supremacists.

This is your site and I won’t tell you how to run it (not that you would actually listen), but this is one of the many reasons why this site has failed to grow. Again, I enjoy these forums for what they are, but let’s not pretend to stand on the illusory moral high ground of free speech with absolutely no limitations.
There is far less use of the n-word or other such speech on this site than any of the community sites which came before it. By a very wide margin. You should've seen NWP and Boris back in the old days.

I have considered asking people to stop with the epithets, and as you've seen I don't use them myself. However, I really hate moderating any kind of speech which isn't either breaking laws or harassing members in some way.

I like the community more deciding what speech they tolerate and what speech they don't.

If speech like that overwhelmed the site and was everywhere, I would do something. I don't see it as a major problem here.

Perhaps the time will come when I feel it's for the good of the site that I disallow things like that. I realize that times change, and it's not 2005 anymore. In general, I like leaving things as open as possible.

I have actually taken heat within poker for this view. Every WSOP I have at least one person politely taking me to task for allowing "hate speech" on here, and I have to explain to them that it's just a free speech thing, and that no malice is intended toward anyone or any group of people.
