Kershaw will probably come back next year. He's recently been taking the approach of, "Sign a 1-year deal and come back the next year if I did decently and am not hurting too much."
In a year with much increased offense, Kershaw has a 2.61 ERA and a 1.065 WHIP, and made 21 starts despite some injury trouble. He has a 123/34 K-BB ratio, and is averaging fewer than 1 HR allowed per start, which is pretty good considering all the HR flying out this year. This year has roughly been equivalent to 2018, when he was only 30.
The only way he doesn't come back is if he's hurting too much to be able to continue in 2024.
He won't go to any other team. Those days of considering his hometown Rangers are over, even though they're a decent (albeit fading) team now. At this point in his career, it's either sign for a year with the Dodgers or quit. Props to him for taking this approach rather than the greedy multiyear approach. He seems to legit not want to be in a multiyear deal which drags down the team if he can't complete it and it becomes a Strasburg situation.
Will he choke in the playoffs again? Maybe. Will the kids like Miller and Pepiot also choke? Again, maybe. I don't have a lot of faith in the Dodgers' postseason this year, especially with a powerhouse like the Braves in their league.
Kershaw’s next start is now pushed back to Saturday in Seattle so it’s academic.
Obviously, I am talking about physical issues. Not pain either.
Kershaw isn’t going to Texas. Are people still talking about that in LA?
Kershaw isn’t going to do a farewell tour either. He will just make announcement and disappear into the night. I respect that. To be clear, I respect the man too as a human. He’s a sweet guy. Classy. You’d struggle to find a similar player in any sport that conducted himself spotlessly for this length of time. Brady perhaps.
To put a finer point on it. Kershaw is not going to play if he isn’t going to be Kershaw. Not in the playoffs and not 2024. He isn’t gonna be Lance Lynn or Zack Greinke eating innings.
The importance of Saturday for Kershaw and the Dodgers cannot be overstated. Fun, huh?
Red Sox fire Andrew Fraudman protege, L’Chiam Bloom, before the double header today. Why wait?
Boston no longer the Dodgers feeder team going forward?
My advice to Dodgers Andrew Fraudman - freshen that resume Bud.
Good atmosphere in Baltimore, can feel the intensity of the season picking up
Big series for Sanlmar 3/1 orioles Al east bet
Almost tied it up there
This is going to be embarrassing if KC finishes with a worse record than OAK. Sure, KC has a bottom 10 payroll, but they are still actually trying to win, and most of their best prospects have already graduated to the bigs. As Druff would say, sad!
(I would still rather take over KC right now than the Angels)

Ohtani’s locker mostly cleared out. Angels to discuss Saturday…….
Gabe Kapler fired.
At one point he was widely panned as Bruce Bochy's replacement, only to win over San Francisco by guiding the Giants to 2021's improbable 107-win season.
However, they went 81-81 last year, and are guaranteed to finish under .500 this season.
They had a shot at wildcard #3 this year, but collapsed in September.
Kapler was also fired in Philly when he had an 81-81 record in Philadelphia in 2019.
He was a hair away to take over the Dodgers managerial position in 2016, as the team was impressed with him, and he had grown up in LA. However, they were also impressed with Dave Roberts, and Roberts probably won out due to the fact that he was half black, and the Dodgers hadn't yet had a nonwhite manager in the team's history.
While Roberts has made some idiotic decisions in the postseason, I still believe they were better off with him at the helm, as he is at least good at maintaining a peaceful clubhouse and guiding teams to regular season success.
The playoff race isn't complete, but we just have 2 days left.
In the NL, the Dodgers, Braves, and Brewers have long clinched it. Phillies are guaranteed the 1st wildcard. Arizona and Miami are probably the other two wildcards. The Cubs and Reds, despite both being unexpectedly competitive clubs, fell back to earth and will probably both just miss it, as both trail Miami by 1.5 games.
In the AL, the Orioles and Twins have the division. Texas is ahead of Houston by 1, and Seattle by 2. The east also has three contenders, with the Rays guaranteed wildcard #1, and Toronto sitting next with the identical record to Texas. One of these four teams will miss the postseason -- probably Seattle. Interestingly, Seattle will finish with a better record than both the 2nd and 3rd NL wildcards, no matter what.
Fortunately we will not see a team make the playoffs with fewer than 83 wins.
Dodgers and Braves have a first round bye. Baltimore also has a bye, and the eventual AL West winner will get the other bye.
The Braves have baseball's best record with 103 wins, with two remaining. Baltimore has 100 wins, and the Dodgers have 99, also with 2 remaining. No other team will win 100, and no team can win more than 105. The Rockies have lost 102 so far, the Royals have lost 105, and the A's have lost 111.
The Dodgers have never won the World Series in a year they won 100+ games.
Adam Wainwright was given a PH opportunity today, in what will clearly be the final AB (and final appearance) of his career.
He is 42, and finished off this otherwise bad year with 7 shutout innings against the Brewers, back on the 18th. After that, he reported back discomfort and said he wouldn't pitch again. His ERA in 2023 was 7.40.
The Reds were up 14-2 yesterday in St. Louis, and Wainwright was brought in as a pinch hitter to give the fans a way to say goodbye to him.
He grounded out, despite two fastballs clearly grooved to allow him get a hit.
He finishes with 200 wins and over 2200 strikeouts, dating back to 2005. He missed all of 2011, and most of 2015 and 2018 with injury. He won't make the HOF, given his 3.52 career ERA. His entire career was in St. Louis.
Expect Kershaw to ride off into the sunset in not too long, even though he's 7 years younger. To be fair, Kershaw debuted just 3 years after Wainwright, though, and has actually logged slightly more innings.

Druff clearly mad Waino still 1.5 rings ahead of Kershaw

I saw Wakefield's first shutout in person against the Dodgers in 1992.
It was his 6th MLB start. RIP
Curt Schilling is still an enormous asshole. One of the greatest failures in business and life you could possibly find.
Schilling is a broke fuck for a reason.
Disclosing Wakefield’s illness despite the family’s wishes was the work of Curt the Nazi
Also, fuck the media outlets for repeating Schilling’s announcement.

Sad, met him in 2011. Pedestrian meet up, it was in the offseason circa 2011 and he was hosting some type of radio show. Nothing big, shook hands and that was about it.
Curt is not broke. He did run a business into the ground, but still gets a very healthy pension from MLB. If he was not so vocal anti-woke nobody would care about him in the media. Better put if he was a Democrat he would have been a victim of the 2008 financial crisis. But he is a right wing Republican, and that is that.
