this is awful.
obv the sox are thinking he turned a corner last year, which he did. but this is crazy money for a pitcher that is likely to pitch to a 4/4.5 ERA in the AL east than one to pitch to a 3/3.5 ERA.
i realize the sox are banking on the next 4 as prime years, but for quite a few young pitchers that enter the league at 20 and shoulder a 150-200 ip load from the get go,..most don't seem to have that trending up career years....and porcello never has had a high SO rate.
imo the sox are paying 20mil per yr for a #3/4 pitcher w/o even seeing him face east teams like he will...there was no need to lock him up...you could have had him for this or less at the end of the year..
stupid. just plain stupid.
