usually there are small groups of 10-15 pelicans that just cruise the surf

but never seen it like today

I think the word got out and they all told their buddies

there must have been 1000 of them

IMO a huge school of sardines

the good halibut fishing is about 60-100 yards out

taking a kayak out soon where the water is a little deeper and it's not so difficult to cast my lure

fishing from the beach is like pissing in the wind most of the time

if you have sardine schooling within casting range, you'll likely have dorado/albacore/halibut/possibly roosterfish in and under the school, real talk.

when I lived in Sydney back in 1987 , my flat was literally on the shore of a cove and I lived street level...but on the 3rd floor

I lived in the second building from the right

    found it on Google images

I used to cast my bait directly from the balcony for parrot fish and small yellow fin

one morning was having my coffee and casting a few...

out of nowhere, a seagull swooped in and snagged my bait in mid-air and got tangled up in the line

for at least 30 seconds I was flying him like a kite as he was freaking out squawking and struggling desperately to get free in midair

had to drop my pole to the ground 3 floors below, and then run down to the shoreline to drag in him and untangle the mess while he was pecking furiously at me

    true story

point is, that if I went out there throwing my tasty looking lures into a massive flock of pelicans this morning, it would likely have been a similar scenario

im sure its a possibility, it happens on boats a fair amount too, but generally speaking anyone surf fishing chases diving birds as a top priority.

    lesson learned

I'm hardly an expert fisherman though obv

btw video doesn't even do that scene justice

I was on full zoom, but the frenzy stretched at least 200 yards in both directions

I caught a pelican once during an amber jack feeding frenzy.

It was at dawn and i couldn't see very well. Thought I had hooked a big one until i realized my line was 50 feet high instead of deep.

    They are mean mother fuckers.

I had to throw my shirt over its head and hold it down while my dad took the lure out of its wing.

    They are tough birds.

Just because you can doesn't always mean you should.

The problem with the world today is that nobody does anything based on principal anymore.

If you reach your 80's, consider your life in overtime. Sudden death overtime.

I'll never understand how swimmers get bitten by sharks. Can they not hear the music?

incredibly gay sex and sonatine would recreate this scene 25 years later to the day during their first meet up

Tyde is a sportsbetting legend. Obviously this was a premonition that not only would the New Orleans Pelicans cover the +8 spread against the Spurs, they would also win outright at +280. Anyone else who saw this won a lot of money. Well done Tyde!

Brittney Griner's Clit: thought same thing. I'm on big on pelicans getting a lot of covers for a few weeks and outright wins throughout season.
