    Anyone know anything about cars?

I'm trying to get new battery cables, but when I look on sites like Napa or Autozone it asks for your car make. When I enter the info it always comes back as "No parts found" for battery cables.

Are they that car specific? Can I not just buy ones of the same length as mine at Napa or something?

unless you want cut cables to length and crimp on connections by hand then yes you need the vehicle specific cables. what are you driving?

93 Acura Vigor. I saw some in the store that already had the connections on the cables. Was just gonna take the old ones off and try to get some of similar length.

The generic cables like those will probably work but may have some slack from being too long. The slack in and of itself is not bad as long as you can zip tie it down to keep it away from moving parts like the fan and pulleys. I did a quick search and found the one below.

Thanks for the help. Stupid question. The one that goes on the negative is the same as the one that goes on the positive? Like they don't sell two separate types? Or sizes?

A lot of it will come down to your model of car so I'm not sure. Generally speaking the ground wire will go from the battery to the body/frame of the car and possibly to the engine block. The hot side is much more car dependent as you have the starter, alternator, and fuse box to contend with. Here is a link for a page that has the Acura OEM parts for your car and it has an exploded view of the battery and cables. TBH it looks like a bit of a bitch on the Acuras.

This is why I'm glad I found the best most honest mechanic ever. Years of getting ripped off by dealerships and mechanics.
