I think the Lakers are much scarier with D'Antoni than they would be with Jackson.
The triangle system is known to eat up point guards and kind of negate their role of facilitation. Jackson's teams never had an above average point guard. Sticking Steve Nash into that system would be a complete and utter waste.
Steve Nash thrived under D'Antoni's system while in Phoenix back when A'mare Stoudemire was good.

It still seems weird to start the season with Brown and fire him after 4-5 games. The obvious sign was that they had talked to Phil and he was coming back.
Some shit must have gone down for that to have fallen apart.
It's easy to win titles when you have coached four of the best 20 players ever (Jordan/Pippen, Shaq/Kobe) in their primes. Six of his titles (Bulls 96-98 and Lakers 2000-02) came when his teams were just ungodly dominant. I think Phil is an amazing coach whose skills lend themselves more to man management than anything.
I listened to a podcast with Bill Simmons and Haralabob recently, and Haralabos makes a good case for Phil being overrated. It's a good listen.

The triangle system is difficult to implement and would negate the Nash acquisition. I'm not saying that D'Antoni is a better coach (he isn't) but just think the Lakers are more frightening is his offense.
