I said I'm not going to make rules about spoilers, but I will make one rule about the spoiler tag.
Do not remove the spoiler tag when quoting people so it's no longer a spoiler.
I just deleted a post that did that.
The whole spoiler panic is stupid because the guy who started the whole thing about Boardwalk didn't seem to be intentionally spoiling anything. He was just making a thread about a show from a year ago, and clearly didn't expect the resulting brouhaha.
So in general, my position is this:
- I am leaving it up to the user to see if he feels it's necessary to put a spoiler tag, but am suggesting that they err on the side of using the tag.
- I do not want to see people intentionally posting spoilers just to be assholes.
- I especially don't want to see people undoing others' spoiler tags by quoting them and removing the tags, or by reposting normally what other people put as spoilers.
BOTTOM LINE: Don't intentionally be an asshole about spoilers, and it will all turn out fine.
DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT PLOT DIVERGENCES BETWEEN THE COMICS/BOOKS AND THE TV SHOWS?
and do you not understand the difference between posting something to create a discussion and posting something to be an asshole?
and there is a huge difference between something that was aired a year ago and something has yet to be shown
Since the Boardwalk thread was posted, several other spoilers have been posted, all with the sole intent of being an asshole. People only seem to care about the ones that affect them, though.
The point I was trying to make, which I made in a very immature fashion (I'm sorry Vegas), was that spoiling TV shows, movies and books is a shitty thing do; regardless of intent or age of the medium. I don't know if the OP of the Jimmy thread was being a dick on purpose, but it shouldn't be there either way. I'm not going to start a thread about Song of Ice and Fire with a provocative title, but I'm sure if someone did (even with innocent intentions), that lots of people would be upset despite the fact that it's quite an old book.
Trolls like azzclown will say to use the internet at your own risk, or that PFA is the domain of assholes anyway. It doesn't have to be that way. We could all just be courteous, keep spoilers out of thread titles, and use spoiler tags when appropriate. Is that so hard to do?
I didn't see any other serious spoilers being posted.
All of the spoilers posted since the Boardwalk one were intentionally ridiculous. Can you point me to a real spoiler posted, other than the (probably) fake one here and the one you re-posted?
I mean, even I got in on the action, posting a "spoiler" that Dorothy was really dreaming in the Wizard of Oz. Is that the type of stuff you're referring to?
This is not really a spoiler, because it has not been revealed one way or the other in either the books or the TV show and is pure conjecture, but I do not think Jon Snow is Eddards son. I think he is really:
