    Exploitable Slots

Buffalo Link is a good game to start with.

Alan Kessler, the poker tournament player, is also an advantage slot player. I'm sure some of you follow him on X. His favorite game appears to be Buffalo Link as he tweets about the game regularly. Here are some links to his buffalo tweets:

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1773950883182883238

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1768507477778469005

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1805832352972915054

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1799611637814739077

So what exactly is Kessler doing?

In the below video Vegas Matt is playing a $125 Buffalo Link. This game is a Mystery Progressive and what slot AP's refer to as a Must Hit By (MHB). A bonus feature can be triggered on any spin.

Notice the counter in the upper right is on 956, The Buffalo (actually a bison) is the main symbol. Every time a buffalo symbol lands in the screen it ticks the counter up by 1 unit. The counter resets to 100 and a bonus feature will be awarded before the counter reaches 1800. One will average catching about 2 buffaloes per spin. Once this bonus feature is awarded the counter will reset to 100.

So Matt has selected a game where the counter is already at 956. You can see it on the upper right. Much better than playing low but still it's a negative play. The positive plays starts at around 1200. The more above 1200 the number is the bigger the edge. A number like 1400 is strong although beware as this game carries a lot of variance. You will average a strong profit at that number even tho not every play is a winner.

So Matt catches the 3 coins on the first spin to get the 8 free spins. This is one of the bonus features.

Then at 0:45 he catches the lock & spin feature (the other bonus feature). You can see how this feature works. Fill the entire board up and you win the Grand Prize.

At 29:50 the bonus feature triggers. Matt spins it off and the counter resets to 100. The play is over.

There are usually 25 bet levels, each with their own counters, to check on a Buffalo Link machine. I'll get into how to check those bet levels for good numbers in a future post.

I won't be participating in the trolling in this thread. There are lots of threads to troll me. I will be putting up some serious content. The trolling is a disruption so I would ask everyone else to refrain also.

Poker and advantage slots go hand in hand. I did it for years. In most casinos the advantage slots are right outside the poker room. Besides the profit of the slots they also generate much more comp than poker.

There are more than 200 different exploitable slot games out there. I will be covering many of them here.

This is what Buffalo Link looks like sitting on the casino floor. As you can see, each machine has 5 denominations, 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents and 25 cents. There are five bet levels to each denomination.

    The 1 cent level has $1, $2, $3, $4, $5.
    The 2 cent level has $2, $4, $6, $8, $10
    The 5 cent level has $5, $10, $15, $20, $25
    The 10 cent level has $10, $20, $30, $40, $50
    The 25 cent level has $25, $50, $75, $100, $125

So that's 25 bet levels on each machine that one has to check the buffalo counter to see how high the number is.

You can't just walk up and check the bet levels on a Buffalo Link without putting money into the machine. And when you punch up the bet level it will make a spin on you. Since that bet level is in negative mode most of the time....you will be paying an exorbitant amount to check those bet levels. And most of the time you won't get a play.

There is a free way to check all bet levels on the machine.

    Either:

    1) put a 1 dollar bill in the machine, or

    2) put a slot ticket for a dollar or less into the machine.

Punch up the 1 cent denomination. Then down on the pad....It will show the five bet levels. The counter will be showing the number for the $1 bet level. Punch the $2 bet level and look at the counter again, it will show you that number, then punch up the $3 and look at the number, continue on for all five bet levels.

Then switch up to the 2 cent denomination and do the same thing, go thru all the bet levels.

Then up to the 5 cent denom, then the 10 cent denom, etc.

    BUFFALO ASCENSION

Buffalo Ascension is a game where the reels expand as you are spinning. At reset the reels are just four high. But the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th reels will open up to 5 high, 6 high, and 7 high.

When a reel reaches the top you are awarded either Free Spins, a Stampede Jackpot or a Super Stampede Jackpot. Most of the time it will be the Free Spins/Stampede Jackpots. The Super Stampede is the longest frequency hit but pays the most money.

The overall payback of the game runs from high 80's to low 90's depending on location. But the short term payback is predicated on how high the 2nd, 3rd and 4th reels are.

The game is based on ways to hit a pay, not lines. At reset there are 1024 ways (4X4X4X4X4 = 1024). The max number of ways is 4X7X7X7X4 = 5488).

Stop the video below at 0:10. The guy is starting out with the reels at 4,4,6,6,4. That's 2304 ways.

At 1:18 the 3rd reel moves up to 7. Now there are 2688 ways.

At 1:35 it moves up to 3360 ways. Remember this number. It's where the advantage begins. You don't want to play if the ways are below 3360.

BTW, you don't have to do the math at the machine. The number of ways is shown on the bet pad down below the game.

At 1:50 it moves up to 3920 ways.

At 2:55 the guy switches down to the $10 bet level, just 2880 ways there. Bad move on his part. But at 4:13 he moves back to the $30 bet. Watch what happens next.

At 6:04 he catches the Super Stampede. Now it's a matter of seeing how many buffaloes appear in the screen. The more buffs the more you get paid. He scored a 1000 for 1 payoff.

Catching a full screen of buffaloes pays 2500 for 1. I've done it once.

You'll find this game in most every casino these days. You'll also find vultures sitting around waiting on the ploppies to get up while leaving a good number. The game is highly lucrative or the vultures wouldn't be there.

Advantage slots are variable state games. The house has the overall edge in the long run but in the short term the games offer advantages to players.

Take a game where the overall long term payback is 90%. It's variable state. So half the time the game returns 70% and the other half the time it returns 110%. That averages to 90% overall payback.

My strategy is to play only when the game is in the 110% mode. I will never make a spin that has an expectation of only 70%.

These games play like computer games so there are things that can be deciphered. They can be analyzed and strategized.

In the pic you can see that a Super Stampede is above both the 2nd and 3rd reels. This occasionally happens so watch for it.

Qualifier for playing Buffalo Ascension. There are two conditions.

    1. The 3rd reel (Super Stamped) must be at the top, 7th level. If that condition is met then there is a 2nd condition.

    2. There must be at least 3360 ways or more or forget it.

Hourly rates fluctuate depending on location, plays generated, and competition for the plays. But overall its in the $140 an hour range. That includes time looking for the plays as well as seat time spinning them off.

Slot AP’s are not created equal. What one makes is a function of their knowledge and how hard they are willing to work. Most make less than me but there are a few that make it into low 7 figures per year.

AP play at the Mirage. They're giving away the progressive money which by law they are required to do. You can bet the Vegas slot AP's are there. But I don't think there is much expectation there.

Bill Krakomberger, besides being a professional sports bettor, is also an advantage slot player:
