Wow. Everyone is drinking the Kool-Aid. Kaepernick is nothing but a self centered attention grabber that thinks he's a lot better than he is. He will be remembered as an anti American punk. Tillman on the other hand will be remembered as the great player and the hero that he really was.

Some of these leftist, socialist writers can convince themselves that a corkscrew is a straight piece of metal. They make themselves believe any fantasy that comes to their minds and they try to make others believe it, too.

Tillman took an extreme risk and gave up his fortune and his life for his country. kap took no risk. His career was over. He took a knee and became a rich and powerful celebrity forcing his political views upon Americans.

Brett - I cannot believe you compared Kaepernick to a person who willingly left the NFL to serve his country. The difference is that Kaepernick opted out of his contract hoping for a bigger score. Tillman resigned because he felt he wasn't doing enough for his country. Kaepernick was being paid big bucks while taking a knee. Tillman was not when he died serving his country. When will this all stop? This coming from a lifetime Niners fan.

Pat Tillman died serving his country while he could have been playing football. Kapernick disrespects the country that allowed him to play a game for a living. Please don't compare the two. Kapernick wore a costume Tillman wore a uniform. Tillman stood at attention during the anthem kapernick showed no class.

Pat Tillman joined the Rangers and gave his life protecting his country. Kapernick refused guaranteed multi-million contract because he wanted more money and then got another load from Nike. So, it seems all those hits to the head finally caught up with Favre

Brett Favre should be waterboarded for comparing Kaepernick to Tillman. Tillman is a hero. He gave up his life in defense of his country. Brett Favre isn't even qualified to talk on this subject. Did he serve in the military. Did Brett give up millions of dollars to go serve? NO. He and the rest of the NFL can't possibly fathom the sacrifice Tillman made. Kaepenick is no hero. Brett should crawl back into his retirement hole and stay there. How dare him.

I'm not sure whether to throw up or simply ignore such a statement. Pat Tillman gave his life for this country; he is a true hero. Kapernack on the other hand has spent his adult years whining about his mistreatment and trying to convince the NFL he should be given another chance. Where is Pat Tillmans 2nd chance?

Pat Tillman's sacrifice was the ultimate for his country. Kaepernick's sacrifice was more symbolic for a cause in his country, and he didn't lose his life over it. Kaep refusing to play is symbolic specific to highlight police brutality, and for which I am grateful for his stance. But we should not compare the two.

The reason he is not playing was because he didn't accept a contract from San Francisco....Now, he refuses a back up role....Wouldn't say this makes him a martyr....

Pat Tillman on the other hand, made the ultimate sacrifice....Joined the military after 9-1-1, even after receiving a new contract from the Cardinals...The legacy of these two isn't even close...

I am reminded of what's been said comparing the contributions of the chicken and the pig to a plate of ham and eggs. Wrong! Pat Tillman walked away from a $3,000,000 contract and signed up for a $20,000 job to enlist as an Army Ranger to defend minorities from terrorism. Moreover, he didn't seek celebrity status, he refused media interviews. Bret, all those hits you took in the NFL have clouded your recall ability.

Notice that Kraepernick didn't start his little "protest" until it was known that he was being cut? Wasn't his "cause" worth bringing attention to before that?? He just wanted an excuse, other than his lack of talent, for losing his job.

Pat Tillman served honorably in the military and was killed in uniform. I bow my head to the memory of Pat Tillman. I wish that didn't happen to him and have shed real tears for him, and I bet I'm not the only one to have. He was courageous, intelligent and selfless. How the hell do you make a comparison like that? Maybe a different comparison, but not that one.

Whoa whoa whoa. There is a massive difference between giving up a NFL career as a starting caliber DB and enlisting in the Army in a time of war, and refusing to accept a contract because you weren't good enough to start anymore and then deciding to be an activist. Tillman and Kaepernick couldn't be farther apart

I respect Kaepernick for following his beliefs but do not agree with his method of protest. As the saying goes, I may not agree with your opinions but I'll defend to the death your right to have them. Tillman was a hero, Kaepernick is not!

Oh sure, Kapernik sacrificed his career for his beliefs, but his sacrifice is nothing compared to Pat Tillman's sacrifice. They both sacrificed their NFL career, but under way different circumstances. There is no comparison, and Mr. Favre had one too many concussions to make the comparison. Tillman lost his life serving this country and for the ideals for which it stands, One Nation under God , with liberty and justice for all. Kapernick took a knee for justice, which does not compare to the same standard of giving one's life for one's country. Kapernick still has a chance resurrect his career, but kapernick's sacrifice is only financial and social, which does not compare, even a little bit.

I didn’t read the comments because comment sections are the lowest common denominator shit in the world. The thing is, I think Tillman would be completely fine with it.

He joined after 9/11 to fight Bin Laden and had a deep patriotism, then felt used and that he was involved in an illegal war in Iraq, felt the military was using him as a propaganda tool and he refused to do any interviews. He had a meeting with Chomsky set up for as soon as he got out. His family says he had grown anti-war and was going to become an anti-war advocate. He was very much someone who was disillusioned with everything after his time in that Middle East nonsense.

He would never join in his teams prayer circles as he was an avowed atheist and caught a lot of pressure to do that, but wouldn’t. He hated W, was very liberal politically, hated the war he felt misled to join, and that was all before the US military lied to his family about being the victim of friendly fire.

He was known as a very outspoken and free thinker. He wasn’t the God and America soldier they wanted out of their football hero turned soldier propaganda tool.

One can never know how he’d feel about it, but he was trending towards a guy who probably wouldn’t have a single issue with CK’s stance imo.

I don’t think CK is comparable. I think he was an average QB and not anywhere near as interesting as Tillman as a human being, but I don’t think he would have taken offense at the comparison. I have no idea because we lied him into a war and he got killed by his fellow soldiers accidentally and the entire episode was a complete tragedy.

Putting Kaepernick on the same level as Tillman? Are you serious? Tillman put his life on the line and died in the service of his country. Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem protesting what he perceived as social injustice. Tillman is a hero. There is nothing heroic about Kaepernick....not now...not later.

Look at the crime statistics. Black thugs are shooting at cops so that's why cops are on edge. Since poverty is a huge factor, I'm going to use 75% of my earnings to set up small businesses in the black community to create jobs. This will help the black community. I hope other black millionaires will do the same." Me: Yes! I support you, CK! (Wakes up) Oh, #$%$, that was just a dream.

Colin Kaepernick’s protest was about police brutality, nothing about the flag or military. Nate Boyer, an active duty Marine gave Colin the idea to kneel to protest against police brutality. Again nothing about the flag or military.

Those who continue to inflate the two are no better than the draft dodger in the White House!

Leave it to the Yahoo Redneck Reactionary Squad to take a comparison that "both men were willing to leave the NFL and put their career on the line for their principles" and turn it into yet another way to bash Kaepernick for taking a stand for his race and social justice.

Pat Tillman was an amazing human being who lost his life in service to our country. Because of that, he deserves our eternal respect and honor. Kaepernick is a man who lost his career because he wanted to bring attention to a 400-year history of violence and unfair treatment against African-Americans. He lost millions and was locked out of the league because no one wanted to sign him and take the flack.

No, they are not the same, but BOTH TOOK A STAND that took them away from the NFL, and THAT's WHAT FAVRE IS SAYING, NOTHING MORE.

Tillman's name will someday be removed from the bridge. Favre's admiration for persons willing to give up the career of their dreams for a greater personal cause is not at issue here, certainly Tillman was that person. Nevertheless, the truth regarding Tillman's departure from a sports career in exchange for a military assignment has never been fully told. The last months of his military service were a contradiction of military discipline, and his celebrity became a military liability. Military Command has the name of the individual who shot Tillman in 'friendly fire', yet to this day the individual's name has not been released. Additionally, the person who shot Tillman has never been brought before the judge to explain the details of his role in the 'friendly fire' incident. I appreciate Brett Farve's opinion, but prefer he anchor his opinion soley on the knee of Kaepernick.

I had some respect for Brett Farve at one time. Now i really question his judgment. However, the Army military tried to make Tillman the hero, when, in fact, Tillman was killed by his own army unit. Give the guy credit: he did forego an NFL career to serve in the military. Cant take that away from him. In contrast, there were claims his "gung ho" attitude leading his unit led his own guys to kill him. The truth of the story died with Tillman. Tillman was also described in the media as being a bully/street fighter prior to his college football days. Perhaps his parents or family can tell us the truth. As for Kaepernick, well, his life drama has been told a million times. He is a hyped creation of a media desperately searching for any kind of black leader. BTW, kaepernick has a white parent. wonder why he doesnt claim that identity. it has also been stated, in the media, that NIKE paid kaepernick millions of dollars to replace his lost NFL income. It is also interesting to note how businesses and the NFL are now "tripping over themselves" to look pro-black and non-biased in any way. Really?

He sacrificed this career for millions in endorsements as a actavist. Doesn't seem like a real sacrifice compared to those who have laid down their lives for this country...like police officers. Seems he was kind of an opportunist since he really wasn't that great of a quarterback.

Favre must be back on the Vicodin again...Or maybe since he can't remember the millions of dollars he defrauded Mississippi out of, he never got off of them? No Favre is wrong. Tillman died in defense of his country. Kaperneck is simply protesting. Nothing heroic about what Kapernick is doing. Let him put his life on the line and then see what he is made of. I think Favre took too many hits to the head during his playing time.

Evidently it's not hard to be a hero nowadays. All you have to do is be a 3rd string quarterback and refuse to stand for the National Anthem because you got benched. He obviously wasn't doing it while he was starting. RIP-NFL your new hero is destroying your league, you just don't know it yet.

When you're at work, and being paid by your employer, there are some things you just can't and shouldn't do! Forcing your political beliefs on your employer and his customers is one of them.

#1 Brett Favre's elevator doesn't go all the way to the top. #2 Kaep knew his NFL career was tanking and he chose to forsake the American Flag and everything it stands for as a last-ditch attempt to gather support. #3 Pat Tillman was a proud American and a hero in every sense of the word. Fighting for his country and its honor was the ultimate sacrifice. #4 Kaep is an opportunistic coward; a sell-out if you will. #5 Anyone who puts himself in a suspect and indelicate position that includes sexting, is not to be hailed as anything other than a pervert and a predator. Conclusion: Favre is a disgusting sort, Kaep is an unscrupulous sell-out, I can only hope that Tillman is in a position to unleash his wrath from the great beyond and put both to an unpleasant demise.

Ever time Kaepernick took a knee, he was spitting on the graves of every serviceman and woman that died defending this country and the freedoms of it. Kaepernick will never be a hero. Mr. Favre correct me if I'm wrong but did the NFL loose fans with Pat Tillman actions, NO! There is a correct way of doing thing and incorrect way so Kapernick did it looking for a pay out because he knew he was on his way out at the bottom of his game, the NFL should not be a political format it's suppose to be a America pass time. Let get back to the game and enjoy a Sunday afternoon again. Kapernick go away and stay a way!

How low can you get? Tillman gave his life, all Colin did was knell in disrespect for the country that gave him the opportunity to play a game for pay [BIG PAY]. The players could always demonistrate outside their work area. But with the cameras on they get the lime light. Not satisfy with the announcers using stats to make them better than they really are. They are showing how dispickable they are. Fans you get what you deserve. Players that got and have the opporitunity to be fans demigods and make big money to play a game.
      ALL LIVES MATTER!!

Well I thought Brett Favre was OK. I now see he is an idiot. Maybe too many blows to the head. Pat Tillman left a safe job as an NFL player to go to war. The racist formerly known as Collen Kaepernick does has done nothing remotely similar to that of Pat Tillman. Furthermore the NFL Hall of Fame is for exceptional players. Kaepernick does not fit that bill either. I am so sick of the literal and figurative bowing to what many believe is race when it is truly about Socialism/Communism. However no matter what the reason Favre has lost his marbles.

Krapernick left because he wasn?t a starter anymore and started throwing a fit. He got pulled into the kneeling #$%$ because he was called out for sitting on the bench because he was throwing a fit then to save face he started saying it was about police brutality. Brett, you really as stupid as you sound when you open your mouth. Colin is a spoiled little brat raised by white parents in upper middle class suburbia. He knows nothing of suffering from anything more than stupidity. He was a half assed quarterback to begin with and his own lack of skill got him benched. This led to his “protest” to a legitimate shooting simply to get attention. And he sacrificed his career (what was left of it) in the name of stupidity. He pulled the grenade and threw the pin. DO NOT EVER insult the memory of Pat Tillman by comparing that half wit Colin to him. Pat gave up a career (a successful one at that) so he could serve a cause greater than himself. He voluntarily put himself in harms way and unfortunately was lost in combat. PAT IS A HERO! Colin is a half wit crybaby who couldn’t win at losing. Now that moron and his giant Afro get hailed as some kind of hero by a bunch of equally stupid people. At least we can rest at that one. Brett, stick to what you’re good at, like Wrangler Jean ads and not sounding very bright when you talk. Colin, just go away you moron. Pat, you are a hero, my hero, America’s hero amongst the company of hero’s. Thank you for your sacrifice.

I agree in with the comparison, though he it's not really apples to apples. Colin had the opportunity to play again but chose not to.

It is a bit shameful they keep running the narrative that he wasn't offered a contract because, that's just not how it works in the NFL. For example, he had a player option (being at the end of his last season, he could have signed with the 49ers if they wanted him to or not and they would have been required to pay him.) At the time, he didn't be a back up (and that's a pride thing, it's understandable) so they worked out a trade deal with the Denver Broncos. He asked them not to trade him because he didn't want to play in Denver (why? Well it's speculative, maybe he wanted a better team, or maybe he thought there was too much competition at the QB spot, but we do know he would not have been guaranteed a starting position.)

His agent shopped him around and did a big no-no by saying he would not be interested in any team if was not guaranteed a starting spot. It is true he took the 49ers to the superbowl, but that was 3 years earlier, and in his last 2 years he was 3-16 as a starter. Which means it's highly unlikely any team would guarantee him a starting spot. (That's an exceptionally bad record.)

The following year, there were at least 6 teams that inquired about him. They did not offer contracts, that's not how it works when you've been out of the league for any stretch of time. The teams have to evaluate you. But again his agent said he wasn't interested in any evaluation, just a contract and still a starting contract, so nobody took him up.

The following year, it's rumored that 3-5 teams inquired and 1 team was prepared to waive the no workout evaluation, and that was the Baltimore Ravens. But again, they wouldn't budge unless he was guaranteed a starting spot. The irony is, he wanted the starting spot given to him over the quarterback that beat him in the superbowl he played in.

The following year, he finally agreed to do a workout when the Seahawks inquired. It's spotty the information coming out of team on matters like this, but the information we did get was that: He didn't have a great workout, though the Seahawks liked the idea of back up for Russell Wilson who played a similar style, so they were prepared to offer him a minimum contract, get him into the practices and potentially re-negotiate if he made improvements. They are a very open and upstanding team and really wanted to make it work. Unfortunately, when they got wind that it would be minimum contract, the agent and Colin retracted their interest, meaning no matter what contract would be offered, they would refuse it. So the Seahawks didn't offer him a contract.

Then there was the whole open NFL practice, which, I thought showed a tremendous effort by the NFL to get him back into the league. They had never done anything like that before let alone for someone who hadn't played in 3 years, and had as bad a record as he had before exiting the league. Unfortunately again, the Colin camp changed the deal literally the night before saying they wanted to record it for the Nike campaign. These workouts and evaluations, are always done privately for a multitude of reasons, and to commercialize it was just unheard of. Additionally, Colin wanted to only use "his receivers" which again, is unheard of. There is evidence that shows Nike had somewhat orchestrated the last minute change. We do know they did produce a commercial from the alternative venue they set up. Nicely, by doing that, it played directly into the campaign message that they had been producing. So was that Colin's fault? The Agent's fault? or Nike's fault? It's tough to say.

There were contracts offered to play in the CFL that guaranteed a starting spot and waived any workouts. Those were rejected. And the CFL has a long tradition of helping many players get into (and back into) the NFL. That certainly would have been a great option for him to get what he wanted and work his way back into the league.

He's had more opportunities to play than anyone I can think of. And this isn't even factoring in the logistics of what kind of player he is. He's a scrambler (somewhat less common than a pocket QB) so there a lot of teams that would have to rework their o-line to accommodate that to make him successful.

Ultimately, I think he had the chance to play but at this time, I just don't think he would be a viable option. He's in his thirties, hasn't played in 3 years, and the game has moved on. Truthfully, by perpetuating the narrative that he's been blacklisted for his beliefs, I think has gained him more money and coming back into the league and risking being a failure, would be a huge mistake for his brand. So I don't think he'll come back unless someone offered him a $100 mill and a starting spot. And that won't happen.

No comparison at all, Pat Tillman literally fought for all of us while Kaepernick protests (which I do support I personally never cared for war propaganda at football games anyway) from the safety of the football field and only for a certain group of people he perceives as being mistreated, Pat Tillman was one of a kind,

I have always been a Packers fan and a huge fan of Brett Favre. After seeing this article and hearing that he is comparing a hero like Pat Tillman to a washed up disgruntled, self serving individual like Kaepernick just floors me. I’ve lost all respect for Favre. If there is anyone that thinks Kaepernick is even half the man here Pat Tillman is, you’ve got your head buried in the sand. Just sad.

It is what it is. He kneeled and caused a huge controversy. He didn’t vote. He was a completely flawed messenger, BUT his message was a peaceful protest. People whined about it and then the riots promoted NFL to canonize him as a hero.
