I'm not comparing COVID to the flu, but we need to get real regarding accurately reporting death stats, and breaking it down into categories so people know their real risk of death.
Covid deaths are counted using the same method as every other cause of death. This way we have some idea about relative severity of health issues that result in death.
There are plenty of studies already breaking Covid deaths into categories. I have no idea what reporting is done in this area. I have no problem finding information on this.
Oh also if the 305k number seemed too high that's because it's only the lower bound of their most optimistic simulation. They run and update 3 different simulations based on past data. They use variables such as social distancing based on cellphone data, mask usage and regulations among others.
Their most optimistic simulation is based on reaching universal mask usage that they define as 95%. Their most pessimistic simulation is based on lowering regulations. In the middle is their projection based on past data and handful of other assumptions. I don't care enough to find out specifics, but considering their projection for average result for Feb 1st went up 20k in about a week i'm guessing it gives a lot of weight to last 2 weeks of data. They have now processed Oct 19th so you can expect their projection go up a lot, if you know what happened to your trajectory since then.
I don't think it's remarkably accurate. Likely somewhat helpful. I just found it amusing it lined up with my own guesstimate for about a day or two. Why i don't think it's accurate is because they miss the previous data from almost entire flu season. They have almost no data from starting point of high cases with cold weather. That transition didn't really happen last time deaths peaked. And few other things, but there's really no point in listing them all.

Mildly related my voting history is that when i was younger i voted for the socialist party on the national level when i knew it wouldn't matter. These weren't Bernie social democrat types. Old school soviet totalitarianism type. Still working class, but if i thought they had any change of getting elected i wouldn't help them.
When it came to local elections i voted a candidate twice from a far right nationalist party. Old friend of mine that ran as an independent on their list. A union rep, old boxer and lead singer of a punk band. As a half joke he ran on the only party's list that would accept him and got elected. I supported that because i appreciate friendship and loyalty over any tribal bullshit. If you're willing to fight for me in a very literal sense, i don't really care what we disagree about.
The last presidential election we had that mattered was between a center right-wing opponent vs a gay green party nominee with 20 years younger Latin lover. I didn't bother to vote because i didn't see a scenario where it was a less than a 10 point loss. I think the green party guy lost with over 20 points. We had the a female president before that, but were not that liberal yet to go for gay president.

You said that when Faucci changed his stance on masks, he also admitted he was lying to help the healthcare workers. Obvious politically motivated misinformation - at the cost of people losing faith in health experts during a pandemic.
