I actually know several rich California Democrats like Fancy Nancy.
They love their money, love living well, love nice things, love the expensive private schools for their kids, love their safe neighborhoods with responsive/empowered police, and love the privilege their money gets them.
At the same time, they have an underlying guilt about the whole thing. Therefore, they vote Democrat, support all the woke causes, bash Trump, and they think this absolves them of their sins of excess.
Then come those defining moments when they have to practice what they preach, and they go full hypocrite. Never fails. Plenty in poker like this, too.
