David Price and Clayton Kershaw are on the same staff.

It just hit me with a ton of bricks. The playoff challenged Dodgers retained David Price’s services.

I’m not saying Clayton Kershaw is mentally ill. He isn’t a cold blooded winner under pressure but that doesn’t make him sick.

I do think Kershaw is a class act. I really do. Good guy. Just not the baseball god he is made out to be.

Was just about to offer Tom Brady as an example of cold blooded playoff pressure performance. Thought of the recent golf match. I don’t know if Kershaw plays golf but that would not have been a good spot for him. Historic viewership under the spotlight. Not a Kershaw moment.

God I’m gonna miss baseball this year. The government owes me a check.

Could there have been anyone LESS surprising to opt out of playing than Price? I can't think of anyone.

I damn near coined the Price meme years ago, so the answer is no.

So, of course I chuckled when I heard the news. @ Price. @ the hapless Dodgers.

Then I changed my mind. The season, if you want to call it that, is gonna be a meaningless shit show. Price prolly gonna look pretty coge in a couple of weeks.

More time for Fortnite. That was his thing not baseball.

    Red Sox save $6 million.

Speaking of idiotic Red Sox contracts that they ate to get rid of the bum.

The only thing more fitting for Price would be for him to play the regular season then opt out of the playoffs (like he usually does)

    Of course he opted out.

    He's rich.

He's 34. He is old enough to get real symptoms which could harm him.

He would only make prorated money anyway.

I'm surprised more haven't done it. LOL at Ian Desmond claiming it was about social justice though. What a fucking phony. I wonder if Desmond would have cared so much about social justice if he were 23 and at the beginning of his career. Dude is also 34 and financially set for life.

Just remember this when the playoffs come up in the fall of 2021. He doesn't give two shits about baseball, the Dodgers or anything.

And that's exactly why the Dodgers won't win the trophy. Too many Prices.

They used the Kershaw playoff algorithm when they scanned the MLB and up popped Price.

    Obviously it was irresistible.

I took a Blue Jays future on AL flag the other day. Everyone I follow finds it irresistible. Just a fun bet on a fun team.

Futures - Pennant Futures - Odds to Win the American League - Toronto Blue Jays +3300

Even if Jays get sick they are all 20 years old

Not being entirely truthful .... I do believe I will have opportunity to hedge Jays for profit later.

    But they will be fun.

If they were really counting on him to come up huge, yes, you'd be correct.

However, he is pretty much something they just took on to get Betts, and expectations are fairly low. The fact that he'll be 35 before playing for the Dodgers also won't help matters.

At +3300 it's worth a bet for sure.

This year will be a crapshoot. You start cold and you're done.

Tanaka got hit in the head by Stanton. Will he be okay or maybe decide to sit this one out due to concussion/covid concerns/etc?

Will the older teams have young guys who can step in when their elders get covid, injured or their families decide they don't want them missing for months.

No details on who yet San, but at least Vladdy/Bo made it to Toronto.

“a number” of their teammates were held back at the club’s spring training complex in Dunedin because of a positive coronavirus test, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Monday morning.

I honestly have no idea why they would include cross border travel in any sporting plans right now.

Also I haven't followed that closely if someone tests positive can they recover/quarantine/re-test or are they out?

Toronto plays 46 of its 60 games against teams that finished .500 or better last year, with 20 of those coming against the Yankees and Rays

The Yankees will play either the Blue Jays, Orioles or Marlins in 20 of their final 23 games

The Yankees won’t have to play the Astros, A’s and Twins

The Dodgers have 43 games against teams that finished with losing records in 2019.....30 of their first 36 games come against teams with losing records last season.

My book has that bet for Toronto at +5000.

Even as a Twins fan, I think my fave possible bet there is the White Sox at +1500, for a lot of the same reasons. Much easier schedule tho.

Nats opening day pitcher Scherzer looks dreadful.

Plus Nats home field is going to be a single A ballpark with AstroTurf.

    Fire Yankees

    Covid sports gonna be rich

Jays got denied Rogers Stadium. Canadian Government not fucking around with Covid.

Jays prolly play in Buffalo. Little park and Jays homerun kid trio all played there.

Just taking over 7 in opening game on principle.

    This is crazy

Kenley Jansen had the COVID. He claims to be better now.

I wonder how many of these players are going to get winded really easily due to lung damage. That will be a factor this season which many aren't considering right now.

Don't be surprised if closer Blake Treinen is what you see in LA this season.

Jordan Hicks has become the first young player to opt out, though he probably wasn't going to be ready until September anyway.

The Nat's worked things out with the Wash DC local govt to play home games at National Park in DC...the single A ballpark in Fredricksburg was considered, but is that's no longer the plan

Meanwhile, the Dodgers also have local government protocols to complicate playing games in Dodger Stadium (according to MLB) but the Dodgers are not looking at alternatives. https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/20...rs-opening-day
