This is not that bad. It is work like any other way to make a living. While it isn't an honest way to make a living, I wouldn't consider it an outright scam. She isn't forcing these people to give her money. I wish they report more stories of thieves straight up stealing instead of somebody being deceptive and crafty to part people from their money. Not long ago at a casino some dude gave me a big long story about how he needed $5 to get a bus ticket back home to his family. It sounded convincing at the time and I was drunk so I gave him $5. Half hour later I saw him playing a slot machine. I when and asked him "what about the bus ticket" he just shrugged and kept playing his slot. These kinda things are common and and have been around forever. Shes just smarter about it and putting more work into it, and I'm sure is getting compensated better for her efforts.
Also in st. cloud where I'm from theres some legless lady that rolls around on her wheel chair collecting handouts. I saw her the other day at target walking around and buying goods.
Of course it's an outright scam, no scam forces people to give away their money, they are tricked into it by dishonest tactics.
