Is it possible that he heard black guys saying stuff like "What's up nigga?" in rap videos, and didn't realize it was offensive for a white guy to say to a black guy at the table?
If they had history arguing with one another, then I'd say it was more likely meant to offend.
I don't really have a problem with disqualification for using racial slurs, but I hope it also extends to physical threats of violence (even with no race factor involved), which are actually worse.
WSOP pretty much had to disqualify the guy for optics, especially after Maurice made it public.

Picture a foreign dude who barely speaks English who watches rap videos occasionally, and sees black guys saying "What's up nigga?" to each other in a friendly fashion.
So Maurice wins a pot, and the Euro stupidly repeats what he heard on TV, thinking he was being funny or giving Maurice some form of congratulations.
If an American said it, 100% he knew what he was doing. A broken-English-speaking Euro, who knows?

Admit I didn't read whole thread so didn't know he said "what's up n-word".
But I'd be amazed is it wasn't meant as a slur considering that Euros know the difference between both meanings of the word/s.
If he was Eastern Euro, like a Pole or something, then it would make it even more likely it was meant as a slur.
For what it’s worth I’ve played with him a few times. For some reason he’s not a very well liked player but if you ask me he’s a decent dude and really great for the game. He’s one of the rare players who is “action” but also ends up with the chips most of the time. From what I’ve seen he’s a good player.
I played with him briefly at a WSOP event 2 years ago.
It was on Day 1. He was moved to our table, and wasn't doing very well. He survived with a short stack for awhile, then busted.
He was talkative, but not obnoxious. Overall opinion of him was positive.

interesting that anger allows freedom from ones action. Calling someone a racial slur has to come from an internal core belief. I guess if one suffers from a low IQ maybe a slur is their only viable option.
