Meet Alison Downie, the Leftist Professor Destroying a Kid Because He Said There Are Only Two Genders

Another day, another travesty going on at one of our nation’s institutions of higher learning. This one is particularly galling, however. Lake Ingle, a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has been barred from class and could be prevented from graduating all because he told nutty leftist professor Alison Downie that, according to biologists, there are only two genders. Oh, and he disputed the wage gap myth with, get this, facts and figures!

No wonder he pissed this loon off. From Campus Reform
A student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania has been barred from attending a religious studies class required for graduation after pointing out that there are only two genders…
According to Lake Ingle [the student in question], the class was forced to watch a Ted-Talk on February 28 featuring Paula Stone, a transgender woman, who gave examples of “mansplaining,” “male privilege,” and systematic sexism. Following the video, Ingle wrote that the instructor “opened the floor to WOMEN ONLY. Barring men from speaking until the women in the class have had their chance to speak.”…
“The floor was opened, and not a single woman spoke. Thirty seconds or so passed and still no woman had spoken. So, I decided it was permissible for me to enter the conversation, especially because I felt the conversation itself was completely inappropriate in its structure,” Ingle told Campus Reform. “I objected to the use of the anecdotal accounts of one woman’s experience to begin a discussion in which they were considered reality. It was during my objection that Dr. Downie attempted to silence me because I am not a woman.”

So, if it was a professor who said black people should wait until all the white people had had a chance to speak and a black person spoke out of turn, you would be ok giving the same argument?

if it was relevant to the course, yes.

this neo-egalitarian concern right wingers have for 'equal time' in education curriculums is an obvious attempt to shoe-horn their archaic and increasingly irrelevant world-view into dialogs they have no right to influence.

    ill use smaller words;

right wingers dont get to tell teachers what to teach or how to teach it.

    thats not how education works.

if you dont agree with a course, drop out of it.

you're not there to debate, you're there to learn. if you're not willing or capable of learning whats being taught, you fucked up; you're in the wrong class, regardless of what roger stone, ann coultier, and milo yandandsfasdf tell you.

I agree with this view, if this was an elective class. If its mandated to graduate like "ethnic studies" is, then its a farce.

    OSA nails it.

If you knowingly take a leftist college class as an elective, and then the professor runs it in a way you don't like, you only have yourself to blame.

However, there are many required courses at colleges where professors act this way, and the student is stuck either pretending to agree or failing.

These professors think they are queens and kings of their little castles, and they know that students need to pass or they can't graduate. So they basically hold everyone's ideology hostage, and will flunk anyone who dares walk off the straight and narrow of the extremist views being presented.

It is not an uncommon situation to have to write essays claiming to have political/social views you really don't believe, simply to avoid the wrath of the fanatical leftist professor. Even I had to do this a few times, and this was back in the early '90s when the problem wasn't nearly as bad.

It's really a lot of bullshit, because most colleges now require "ethnic studies" type courses, supposedly to expose all students to diversity in cultures, but then the students aren't allowed to have their own opinions. It really is the thought police.

The only problem is that any teacher who said men or white people got to speak first would be instantly fired, and we all know it. The problem isn't "equal time," the problem is there is a huge bias in how rules are enforced and a lot of discrimination going on. I am sure the account the person is giving isn't entirely accurate, but I am also sure this teacher is way out of line and if you switched their policy of "men have to wait to speak" to "women have to wait to speak" they would be fired and packing their bags right already, and this would be front page of all the major news outlets and the narrative would be how this kid is a hero for standing up against discrimination.

But the teacher is blatantly discriminating against men, which is ok, so the narrative is he is an alt right agitator who can't follow rules.

I just hope in 14 years or so universities (as currently constructed) aren't the gatekeepers to good jobs, because as things stand now it certainly isn't somewhere I would want my son to be going. Kids today just seem to be force fed too much bad, maladaptive ideological garbage.

And I have a Phd, meaning I spent a shit ton of time in college, so this is pretty damning coming from someone like me.

thaaaats a fucking great point and i hadnt really considered it.

but even so i think part of being a student is being able to quietly absorb lessons you dont agree with and choosing an appropriate way/forum to voice your opinions. disrupting a class so you can debate gender polarity is a gross disservice to the other students who arent there to bask in their own spotlights.
