Got to see him this past summer at Riot Fest, and sang along to Mama Tried and Okie. The guy still "had it" after all these years.
A true hero of the working man from a true working class city (my hometown). I actually went to grade school with Merle's son, Noel. We were the 2 best athletes in our class and had a friendly rivalry. IMHO, Merle is the 2nd best country music song writer of all time, behind Hank Williams.
Merle was one of the last of the greats. Maybe only Willie Nelson is left?
Sometimes the great multiply and all is good again.
One generation might have been skipped in this bloodline.
