    *** Collectors Item Thread ***

Most people tend to have a collection of something: whether it be shoes, stamps, rare coins, teddy bears, bottles of alcohol, books, cards, sporting memorabilia, stadium tickets, flyers to gigs they've been to, you name it.

I used to have a friend that collected labels from inside his clothes and pillow cases. He rubbed them between his thumb and finger, and apparently the pillow case labels had the best texture. It was very weird.

I don't have much other than a few dozen books, and a bag of cd's.

I've been rooting through the cd's over the past few days. The bag has been sat there for years since my pc and internet has been the main source for music. The majority of them have been mass-issued; so they are cheap as chips online, but some of them were limited issues and go for a bit more money due to their rarity.

Any of you got some unusual collections or rare items you'd like to share?

When I was about 9 or 10 years old my friends and I were horsing around an old swing set in neighbors yard.

I went down the slide. I wrapped my hands around the edge of the slide as I descended. Suddenly the slide collapsed and lopped off part of my little finger.

    I still have it.

    Anybody else collect body parts?

Neighbors found themselves homeless shortly thereafter but that's another story

Yes Sanlmar, body parts. That's that kind of bizarro that we're looking for.

I'm reading an old thread on reddit where a woman says she collects grocery lists, and imagines the person who bought the items.

womanofawesomeness 210 points 2 years ago

I collect grocery lists (if that's what they're called in English). Every time I go shopping, I try to check the carts for them.

When I get home, I make myself a cup of tea, read them and try to imagine the person who wrote them. I once saw a message of a mother to her son on the back of a list. It ended with 'I love you!' and made me smile.

I keep them in a book and read them again every once in a while.

I'm pretty much a post consumer now. I used to collect star wars figures, gi joe, had everything TSR ever printed and every issue of Starlog and Fangoria. Too old for pogs and pokemon, never got into comic books. Now I look at things like that and just see a great way that someone figured out how to get other people to buy things irrationally. It's sad for me to look at it from that angle now because I was way happier when I was looking forward to the release of the next 'thing' that could go into the collection.

I have a lot of old hockey and baseball cards. The most valuable of which would be Wayne Gretzky's rookie card.

I also liked this poster so much that I took a bus (never doing that again) down to Nashville from Chicago just to get the poster at the show. It cost $60 at the time (May 2013) and according to poster sites and ebay, has already appreciated 2000%.

Vintage jockstraps sell for hundreds so there’s that.

I collect antique religious items, my fave being an antique intricate turned wood confessional. It harbors many stories of old.

    - Casino/hotel chips from various casinos, I have them in a book.

    - Silver 1 oz bars, buy them off eBay.

    - Vintage ammo and boxes, they’ve tripled in value in 2020. (9mm JHP)

    - Star Wars tradings cards from the 70s, will trade or sell soon.

    - And flashlights too, LOL.
