These protests are retarded.

They're harmless, so I don't really care much about them, but they're retarded.

They were jamming up traffic today in various parts of the country, including sorta by me. I took Ben out today for some outdoors stuff in the Santa Monica Mountains, and on the way back, we saw a ton of NO KINGS related traffic. Fortunately it was all going the other direction. Anyone unfortunate enough to be driving that way probably sat for like an hour to get through.

The whole premise is dumb. Just 4-5 years ago, we were dealing with extreme authoritarianism on the left, and an insane violation of individual rights. Yet these same people are concerned about Trump acting like a "king". Uh huh. Play stupid authoritarian games, win stupid authoritarian prizes.

How is it a horrible false equivalency?

Laws against driving 150mph and indoor smoking have proven health/safety utility.

The government asked Twitter to ban anyone who suggested COVID came from a lab. This act of censorship had no utility, aside from suppressing a viewpoint they didn't want discussed.

Furthermore, it wasn't just overreach. Plebes like us had to stay home, even if it meant letting mom or grandma die alone. Elites like Gavin Newsom still got to dine indoors with donors, and tons of other pro-shutdown Dem politicians (including Nancy Pelosi) were caught secretly going about their normal business.

So, in short:

- We weren't allowed to say what we wanted on social media, even harmless discussions regarding the origins of a virus.

- Challenging government-preferred narratives was verboten. Zuck testified before Congress that his company was pressured to delete anything which (highly biased) fact checkers didn't rate as true.

- The elites were allowed to do what they wanted, with no restrictions, because why should they have to follow rules for the commoners?


And it wasn't just COVID. Remember anti-Trump factions of the FBI pressuring them to delete the Hunter Biden laptop story, claiming it was "Russian disinformation"? This was despite the fact that neither Hunter nor Joe denied the laptop existed, nor did they ever claim the emails were falsified (because it was all real).

Simply sharing a NY Post article got you a long-term ban from all of the major social media site. The NY Post itself was banned.




All I know is this:

Earlier in the decade, I could not say what I wanted, nor could I go where I wanted. Anyone who challenged the official narrative was shamed, fired, humiliated, or banned from major platforms.

Today you can say whatever you want and go wherever you want. Who is the victim of today's "authoritarianism" so far? Illegal immigrants? Jimmy Kimmel? Leticia James?


You can't even say, "Well, COVID was a new thing none of us ever dealt with before." I'm not talking about the initial shutdowns, which made sense until we got a handle on what was going on, and assessed the true risk. After a relatively short time, it became clear that it was safe outdoors, and that people under 35 were rarely suffering death or major permanent damage from it. That didn't matter. All of this was covered up, and we were living under a staggering amount of government control and speech censorship like I had neve seen before in my life.

If you think I'm exaggerating, tell me again why it was verboten to discuss the ORIGINS of the virus? How would the wrong information on that kill or harm anyone?

As Rahm Emmanuel famously said, "Never let a crisis go to waste."


I will never forget the censorship and authoritarian rule of the early 2020s. This didn't just affect rich comedians, illegals, and career politicians. This affected everyday people like us.

Fuck the left and their hypocritical bullshit.

Marching with them to protest authoritarianism would be like marching with lions to protest a carnivorous diet.

I'm having the same debate over on X.

I point out recent left wing authoritarianism -- measures which personally affected me several times, whereas Trump's actions have not.

They either deny it happened (lol), or insist that Trump's is "much worse". They claim that I'm not arguing in good faith to compare the two.

My response is simple.

There is no such thing as supporting "less authoritarianism". You are either okay with authoritarianism, or you're not. The "more "and "less" is subjective, and it's what allows people to cry about authoritarianism when it's the other side doing it, but excuse their own side's actions as necessary and just.

If someone were to say to me, "Trump is acting like an authoritarian today. Many on the left were acting as authoritarians in the early 2020s. Neither are good, and both are dangerous for the country. We disagree on politics, but we should agree to reject any form of authoritarianism from any side", I'd totally agree.

But nobody on the left will say this, no matter what I try to concede about Trump. They will either deny that early 2020s authoritarianism occurred, or they will blame COVID, claiming that quick decisions were required which weren't always correct in hindsight. It's bullshit. The left clearly wanted to censor and punish wrongthink, both about COVID and non-COVID matters. I have a million examples of it.

Furthermore, these same people are whisper quiet about the abhorrent speech-related arrests occurring in the UK, one of our country's biggest allies.

I do not trust yesterday's authoritarians to fight against today's authoritarians. You shouldn't either.
