so you're saying we shouldn't?

I just don't understand how you can think that even message boards on the internet discussing this issue exist if those rights are stripped. You for some reason don't believe it possible? I guess the difference between you and me is that if the shit hits the fan one of us will be running to the other for help. You figure out who will run to whom.
You have the reading comprehension of a 12 year old. I never said that the mentally ill do not need help. I pointed out that 4D was right that there would never be a clamor for anti-car legislation in the hypothetical scenario that I proposed. Today, by and large, has been about certain groups using a tragic event that tugs at the heart strings of the populous to further their own agenda.
I am purely speculating here, but if the varying reports are true then the bulk of the blame for today resides on the shoulders of the dead guy's mother. It would seem that he had mental issues that were known about before today. He also had access to weapons that were owned by his mother. She should have known better.
Equating automatic weapons with cars is something I imagine a 8th-9th grader would come up with for a report
So so stupid
But...but...Walter Sobcheck says ban guns, so you are fucking wrong and being unrealistic...not the other way around! Deal with it!
Seriously though, after the few posts I have scanned through in this thread, I think Walter Cockcheck wins the "Biggest Moron Of This Thread" award.
You really are a mong. I give up trying to have an intelligent discussion with a person who cannot even for a cogent response. Continue to troll as you please and you will continue to show you inferior mental capacity. You're a test case for Schopenhaeur's guidelines to win an argument by causing exaggerated controversy instead of using facts.
MY mental capacity?
WHERE THE HELL IS YOURS?
You have to draw a line somewhere, and you're severely crossing it. 4D is off in government conspiracy world and you're essentially agreeing with him.
Let's examine to the two objects in question:
Guns
Intended Use - To fire flesh piercing projectiles at objects living or non-living for the purpose of killing or physically damaging the object being fired at
Cars
Intended Use - Transportation
Get fucking bent man.
My 2 cents in one sentence, since I have to leave and have shit to do:
We don't have a gun problem in this country nearly as much as we have a CULTURE problem and and some apparently have a psychological problem. Our society is simply fucked up, NOT the gun laws.
We've been cutting metal health care in this country for 30 years. People dismiss gun control because "you can't stop crazy people from getting guns". What if we could help most of those crazy people before they started shooting up public places.
Giving everyone health care, including access to therapists and psychologists, will cost quite a few dollars. Far less than the Iraq war, of course, but a significant amount. But every time a bunch of people get shot, we cry "we HAVE to do something, to make sure this never happens again" and then we don't do shit. Maybe it's time to do something serious and concrete that addresses the problem.
It's been going downhill since 1983

Let us amend it to 'flesh piercing projectiles at objects living or non-living for the purpose of killing or physically damaging the object being fired at by a military upon it's own citizens that have no way of fighting back when their leaders go rogue.' There, now we live in your world.
I could give them $200k and it wouldn't do anything important. It might help out dozens of people. I'm talking about millions of people.
I've been giving most of my charity money recently to donorschoose.org. I like to buy science oriented stuff for classrooms here in Vegas. I just gave $50 to this one in your honor-

The thought of a mentally unstable drunk like Limitles owning a gun is scary.
So you won't donate money to them because it won't make a big enough difference? So your answer to that is to give nothing? Makes sense. Seems like people like you want these things, but don't want to have to foot the bill for it without the people who don't. Most people talk a big game, but clam up when you ask them to open their own checkbook.
It's funny that you think China's strict gun control laws are their to protect the citizens from each other. When they really exist so the Chinese government can keep it's boot on the populations throat without fear. What better way to control your citizens than by taking away their ability to fight back? Keep thinking the Chinese government is run by the tooth fairy and the easter bunny.
I'm happy to foot my *share* of the bill, dumbass. I vote for every local politician that proposes raising taxes, because our government services suck balls in Nevada. But we don't pay shit for taxes either.
What charitable giving have you done? I'm going to guess none because you're a joyless person who wants everyone else to hate the world as much as you do.
LOL. So now it's about making sure everyone pays their SHARE? Yeah, you clearly care about the mentally ill. "I'm not gonna help, unless THAT GUY OVER THERE helps too." You're a true humanitarian Barry. My charitable contributions are irrelevant since I am not the one crying for more government services. Send the government some of your money. Nothing is stopping you. Except for the fact that you are full of shit. It's easy to vote for higher taxes when you know they won't be implemented. That way, you can say on internet forums, "I always vote for the guy who wants to raise taxes", yet you won't send any of your own money to fund what those taxes would have paid for.
Just because 20 kids got killed won't affect the Republican vote one bit, no taxes for the rich and guns for everybody.
Republicans are ready to compromise now, they're ready to vote to eliminate all health care for the poor and loosen the gun laws so that every nut job in the country can carry a concealed weapon wherever the fuck they want.
:baddecision
We need to keep learning the power of the gun gives us our rights.
" When we lost a service member, for whatever reason, it was a heart-wrenching experience. But it was worse in the case of those who took their own lives. Suicides have been a challenge for the U.S. military for a long time – and the problem is getting more severe. Suicides began rising in the middle of the 2000s, leveled off briefly in 2010 and 2011 and resumed climbing again this year, reaching a record high.
In fact, suicides have become an epidemic. This year, more soldiers, seamen, airmen and Marines died by their own hand than died in battle. Suicide was the No. 1 cause of death for U.S. troops. More than two-thirds of suicides involved firearms, and nearly three-quarters of those cases involved personal weapons, not military weapons."

FUCK YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY A FIREARM
when are the people of the good old US of A going to say enough is enough and force the government to pass proper gun legislation
your country looks like a joke to the rest of the world
Even though I'm for gun control, I sort of agree that guns don't kill people. But why do so many Americans kill people when this kind of thing is rare or nonexistent in most advanced countries (including some that have a lot of guns like Switzerland and Canada)? I don't have an answer for this question, it is meant for open-ended discussion. WTF is it about this country that drives so many people nuts? What Wiganer wrote rings true but I'd like to hear other viewpoints.
Keep the numbers in perspective Walt. We have 311,591,917 people spread over 3.8 million square miles. That's a lot a damn people and unfortunately in a free society sometimes ghastly, godawful shit is going to happen. Doesn't make me feel any better today but them's the facts.
Anybody watch that 121212 concert? how does that not have a thread. Completely escaped me. Joel doing NY State of Mind was a treat. Deal.
They also happen to have a much more stable and healthy financial system because they know how to regulate it, more abundant natural resources, a happier and healthier population, higher educational attainment, better measures on every socioeconomic indicator, better international relations, etc etc, but yeah keep thinking we live in the garden of eden.
