The whole familiarity thing threw me. I guess I just assumed that everyone here would recognize that there was a likely backstory if she’s in a 12-step and self-excluding from everything. It’s not like many start doing that unless they’ve fucked themselves up in some way. I totally get why split went after her. She called her a whore. Druff is in a bad spot. Admitting to drug and gambling issues was part of her attempt to relate. This is a poker forum full of sick gamblers and many admitted drug users (whether past or present). It was unlikely that her confession was going to elicit responses of scorn or disrespect.
She made several posts in the past regarding her enjoyment of living life on her own terms. The drug/gambling thing was part of that, and her road to get away from that also painted a narrative of someone who took control of the situation before it became too late.
Admitting to repeated (and recent) arrests for fraud, bad checks, etc is a whole different matter. You don't resort to stuff like that -- especially at age 40 -- unless you're either a career criminal or have hit rock bottom. This narrative also would have interfered with the "successful lawyer who stopped practicing but could go back anytime" storyline.
Basically her confession post painted a picture of a successful person with their shit together who let their life spin slightly out of control (who then veered back on the right path), while her real story paints a picture of desperation and questionable ethics.
Much of the admiration she was shown here came from a place of respect, and I don't think she wanted to give that up.
Like others here, I would love to hear her actual story, because she seems quite different from your typical low-end bad check scammer. I bet the truth would be far more fascinating than the persona she built up here.

Personally, I liked Michelle. She was always nice and respectful towards me. She was intelligent. Aside from a little bit too much attention whoring (and some unwarranted aggression towards the end), she was also a good and interesting poster. As sonatine mention, she got up to speed incredibly quickly with the history and attitude of the community.
I never quite believed all of her stories. I knew that she was 40 (now 41, apparently) and thought that her pictures were very likely current and real.
Her description on radio of being a former professional blackjack card counter did not add up. Being one myself (though never a professional), I spotted a lot of inconsistencies in her stories.
I also suspected that she fabricated some vacations and trips, bottomset-style. She was supposedly in AC at the same time I was in April, but I don't believe she ever left Ohio. Same thing with her "visit" to the WSOP in the summer. Larry Laffer, for all of his faults, also sniffed some of this during his friendship with her. He privately contacted me and pointed out other inconsistencies and contradictions with her "travel" stories, and told me that he was concerned that she was completely full of shit about everything. This was when they were still on good terms.
I didn't let this stuff worry me too much. I thought that Michelle was a bored, middle-aged woman whose life wasn't as exciting as she wished it was, and she embellished some details for this community. They seemed to be harmless white lies, so I let them slide without questioning them. I didn't want to humiliate her. If her pahticipation here hinged upon portraying a life which was a little bit cooler than reality, I didn't want to destroy that.
Anyway, I'd love to know her full story.
