Yeah, I saw that too about the homeless guy. As usual, since this is the redneck South, the info coming out from there on this case is merky at best...which is a shocker, because parts of the South, black or white, are like god damned middle Earth /sarc
I will challenge the store owners' assertion however saying that this guy "wouldn't hurt a fly" - if you think about it, why would a businessman stick his neck out for some random guy he barely knew, unless he was absolutely sure about it,
considering the potential repercussions and retaliation from both the police, the media, and the community? Unlike some random witness on the street, this guy actually has "skin in the game" and it could actually hurt his business and his ability to make a living.
Either way, yes...this guy had a rap sheet, but it doesn't excuse any officer of the law to just shoot people at random on their own accord just because they "felt" were personally threatened. Concentrated violence came about from incidents like the Boston Massacre and the Troubles/Bogside murders in Northern Ireland stemming from authorities using their extrajudicial power to kill when subjects didn't comply with commands. It's a slippery slope to defend authoritarianism in a country where there (presumably) is "innocent until proven guilty".
