Thoughts and prayers faggots, maybe move out of fire country, but its time we all move on already.
and there it is.

You want to live in an area that is almost guaranteed year after year to get slammed by a hurricane, ok then, its a free country. Just don't ask for anyone else to share your insurance costs, and don't whine when federal help is late. It's the same thing in New Orleans, the fucking place in under sea level and nobody learned from Katrina. They keep building. I actually know LA County/Santa Monica very well, people literally build neighborhoods in the middle of mountain terrain surrounded by brush and its not about water. These dolts. It's about getting pressure to spray water up a mountain range. Its never going to be safe.
Getting back to you, 'The Boz' (what a joke of a name) you want to build a house a mile from the beach, a beach you probably rarely go to, then fine. When you are without power for two weeks and mold is infecting your sheetrock fucking deal with it. You got that? The rest of the country is sick of your relentless complaining. You decided to live there, you can move to say Tennessee and have zero issues. Oh but no, I live in paradise. I used to live in Florida, briefly, and its infected by mosquitoes and oppressive heat and humidity. Most sane people visit there for a week or two in March and GTFO the rest of the time because it fucking sucks.
quick aside, tgull, our predictions about this being the product of mentally ill human garbage starting fires because the voices told them to create space to plant ivermectin trees appears to be bearing fruit.
The insurance thing is a huge issue which has been mostly ignored up 'til now, but is finally getting attention in 2025 due to the Palisades residents who got cancelled in 2024, and now lost their homes.
Basically California fucked up big time in a few ways:
1) Poor dry brush management
2) Poor preparedness for wildfire fighting, including staffing proper amounts of personnel
3) Refusal to let insurance companies pass along increasing "reinsurance" rates to customers
#3 is what is causing these cancellations. Insurance companies lay off some of their risk by insuring the policies they sold, which is called reinsurance. The state forbids passing reinsurance costs onto consumers, so this makes it a losing proposition for these companies to insure areas which are likely to catch fire.
I have been hit by this, and have been cancelled by several companies. The company I'm with now has also stopped insuring my area, but I am grandfathered at the moment. However, they can cancel me at any time, and they very well might after all this.
There is a state-based insurance called California FAIR Plan, but it's anything but fair. You get the FAIR plan if you can't get insured otherwise. The rates are ridiculously high, but that might be in my future. My neighbor was already forced to get it.
I nominate desertrunner to oversee the effort to make the state better prepared for brush fires.
Oh, and do I have power?
Of course not. 48 hours and counting.
I ran down my car battery too much last night, charging my power block. This required a jump and then a drive around LA for 1-2 hours to fully recharge the battery. I charged the power block again while taking my drive. Fun stuff.
Supposedly power comes back this afternoon or evening, but I don't believe it. Might be a few more days.

desertrunner: We still need to pray for Druff!
please, by all means, lead us by example and share how that prayer would go.
Druff- I called your cell phone and left a message. I will have a generator for you Saturday night.
I hope Druff takes note of this and refers back to it later on.
When you see a Las Vegas city fire truck and it says "ISO Class 1" on the side, it means they have the BEST rating in the nation and that includes WATER SUPPLY as one of the four criteria. This was upgraded after the 1980 MGM Grand fire.
I write this because I think we will see the city of LA and LA County look at this one standard in the future and see where the water supply can be improved. Just like after the MGM fire, we are going to (hopefully) see changes coming to the water supply.

You got the same in insurance issues like those suckers building right on the Gulf of Mexico terrain. You get what you deserve. This is not an act of nature, like a random tornado. That is just bad luck, the tornado victim in Iowa. What is not bad luck is building a $3M mansion on the beach or a $2M villa near a LA tree line so you can invite your friends over and drink wine telling everyone how smart you are. Everyone has said don't live there, don't build there and they do it anyways. A giant fuck off.
Another interesting note.
Last night I was taking to my friend on the phone who lives in Henderson, NV. She asked a question that makes a good point- Does LA get water from Lake Mead? The answer is YES.
For decades, I’ve visited Las Vegas and got a chuckle seeing the LA DWP trucks in Clark County, NV. The city of LA operates (own or lease?) facilities at Lake Mead and sends water to LA. It’s so big, that the city has their own city employed Security Officers on-site. How much land, building and water is involved, I don’t know. Additionally, there is a city of LA DWP “Victorville Switching Station in the Lacerne Valley area in the high desert.
So this leads me to ask- when the fires broke out in LA proper, did a call go out to the LA facility at Lake Mead to boost the water pressure to the LA city area??
I took this pic last year at my Henderson, NV hotel of a fairly new LA DWP truck in the parking g lot…

The previous CA Governor Gray Davis was recalled for less. Time for Gavin to go.

A note about the yellow Clark County fire trucks, the ISO Class 1 decals have been removed from them. Maybe they lost their accreditation? Can Druff confirm?

This is the government’s fault. But not the current one. They’re doing the best they can. Perhaps allowing unfettered development for maximum profit in a tinderbox was not a good idea.
Seriously, when can we get a break from your relentless opinions? On like everything. We have all had enough. Please stop. Or post on the failed former lawyer board. Fuck you are wearing everyone out here. We do not care about your failed lawyer opinions. Go back to the nightclub you work at the resort serving tourists. We don't like you here. We hate you. We don't care about your 20 year old lawyer anecdotes. We despise you. Yeah, can I tell you about a case I worked in 1998? No, nobody cares, ever.
guys please i think desertrunner's trying to say something with these pics of fire trucks.

As previously mentioned, I fear we are only scratching the surface of the competency crisis. Decades of affirmative action/DEI (combined with now decades of stuffing cheap labor foreigners into positions they're not really qualified for) has consequences. The systems these people manage are becoming more and more complex proportionally to the collective increase in incompetence. This increase has also caused erosion across all systems of the systems put into place to stave off disasters or quickly identify disasters. Expect the retarded shit we keep seeing happen only to further accelerate. It's a fucking cancer.
Yay we finally have power!
54 hours
Fuck this shit
No water. No plan. All incompetence.

desertrunner: I dont really pray, but Druff needs our help.
the way you grovel for todd's online attention is cringe.
sadly however, it demonstrates how meaningless your life is.
do you even notice how todd ignores your advances?
give it some thought.
Seriously, there has always been a certain "tone" and vibe in this forum, I go along with the silly stuff and just play along. Since you take some of my goofing off serious, I guess you cant follow along.
Anyway, now the blame game is on- This dike will be out of a job soon...

Palisades fire seemed to be on its way out, as it was being contained and seemingly under control.
However, it snuck through on the northeast and northwest sides, now putting Brentwood, Sherman Oaks, and Encino in danger. These are densely populated areas (especially Sherman Oaks), and would be one of the most devastating fires in California history if it manages to jump the 405/101 freeway barriers, and spread into residential areas.
Master Scalir, a resident of Sherman Oaks who is right by both freeways, is choosing to stay home and ride it out.
In other news, the power failure may have broken my refrigerator, which was working fine prior to the outage. 9 hours after the outage ended, my freezer is just 55 degrees, and my refrigerator is in the 60s. Sad!
