I think the reason for this is that Romney was handing it to Obama. If Obama would have brought that up, then Romney would have rebutted it on a national stage (like he did everything else) that would have crushed whatever Obama had to say about it. I agree and disagree. He should have mentioned PBS in the context that it is a piece in a bigger non-necessary spending pie. It's like explaining to a person who lives paycheck to paycheck that they shouldn't get a Starbucks in the morning on the way to work. They will instantly say it's only $3 but when you explain that $3 a day 5 days a week is $60 a month or $720 a year they should understand how the small things add up.
