another possibility for the delayed timing is that assange (possibly based on what he read in the dnc emails, collusion, superdelegates, etc.), just didn't think there was any possible way that hillary wouldn't get the nomination, so he may as well save them for the general.
even if that's the case, though, i think he botched the timing, as he should have released them pre-debate to give trump some talking points before record breaking audiences. at this point, a lot of early voting already happened.
