The SS Retirement System played no roll in creating the national debt. It's a completely separate government system. Workers pay in and the money is paid out to retirees. The system was so succesfull that every year for decades there was a big surplus of money placed in the SS Trust Fund. The Surplus was invested in interest bearing bonds. At any rate, SS is going to be a huge political issue the closer and closer we get to 2033. Republicans better not fuck around or the Dems will be back in the White House.
Those over 67 should be means tested before benefits are awarded. Larry Ellison collecting SS benefits would be obscene.
As well, why are SS contributions capped at $160,000. That used to be an enormous salary. Rapidly that has not turned out to still be the case. Why is it capped at all?
The crying and wailing about SS funding is just politics. Weaponizing Social Security to make some kind of point. If we are so obsessed with FDR now then grow some balls and act like him.
Nobody needs more homeless or homeless elderly wandering LA streets. Give SS to those that need it.

Trump is faced with a yearly trillion dollar trade deficit with the rest of the world. It's unsustainable and he knows it.
Trying to talk these countries into allowing more U.S. goods into their countries is futile without the tariffs and/or the threat of tariffs. Trump will just get glad handed without the big stick called tariffs.
Take Canada, for example. They have unfair tariffs on us. We have a 50 billion dollar trade deficit with them. So Trump imposes tariffs. The Canadians start talking tough and say "We'll show you!" they impose more tariffs. Trump says fuck you and imposes stiffer tariffs.
Who do you think will win the tariff war? The problem for Canada is the 50 billion dollars per year they are getting off us will disintegrate. They are the ones that will, by far, suffer the most. You just seen that Ontario fuck, Ford, crumble on the 25% electricity tariff when Trump threatened 50% on steel and aluminum.
Americans need to hold the line by putting up with the short term consequences to end the horrible trade deficit. The other countries will talk tough but they know they can't win a tariff war with us. The tough talk is designed to scare Americans into capitulation. It's their only chance.
