You are changing the question. The question is about whether living with a gender identity issue is a mental illness. You haven't said why you think it's a mental illness other than to say that transgender people have a much higher rate of suicide. I then provide a simple reasoning for that. They grow up confused because they are different and mercilessly picked on by both peers and authority figures. They are made to feel small by everyone in society. Would you agree that would make someone much more likely to have mental issues? You are trying to imply that having a gender identity crises in it of itself causes you to be mentally ill and want to kill yourself...
I'm saying that is horseshit, and the issue is that we as a society fuck these people up... what is the suicide rate for gay people in say San Francisco as opposed to gay people in Mobile Alabama?
The only reason I can think of for you thinking it is a mental illness is that you don't qualify it as normal or natural. Much like many used to think it was a sickness to be gay or crave dick. But we don't say gay people are mentally ill now do we? Why do you think it's ok to catagorize someone with a different gender identity that is outside what you feel is normal as mentally ill?
