Do any of you guys play billiards?

I've played pool ever since I was a kid. My old man had a shitty beat up table in our basement. I've kind of stuck with the game for the majority of my adult life and actually i've progressed into a pretty decent player. I enjoy the game, a buddy once called it "white trash art", which is pretty spot on....... Lots of scumbags in the pool world.

Anyways, well known poker players like John Hennigan (recently played Dennis Orcollo a set for 30k in Vegas getting some serious weight), Viffer, Josh Arieh, Shulman, etc have all been giving action to pros for large amounts. Poker and pool go hand in hand, at least where i'm from (Chicagoland).

But yea, watch imo the best player in the world atm, Shane Van Boening run 8 racks of 8 ball in a row last year versus Earl Strickland, white trash artwork at its finest........

This place is like having a pool table in a bar. Start a game of pool and a fight breaks out.

Going to a bar and shooting pool used to be a big thing for me. Won a good bit of money and beer in small tourneys in way back when. Still remember this one night. Tourney was 2 out of 3 games 8 ball. Got up ran the table first game. Feeling damn cocky. Dude gets up. He runs table 2nd game. Feeling not so cocky. 3ird game, I break, miss, dude runs table. I'm thinking "Did this just happen?".

Can't play anymore, eyes are shot to hell.

I played a few times a week with a group of 3-4 people back in early university. It was great because they charged a flat 7 dollar an hour fee for table and had 3 dollar drinks. I was never that good and my biggest achievement was breaking and running table in 8 ball (only ever did it once). I tried 9 ball a few times but its embarrassing unless you are decent. I used to watch the nine ball world championships back in the early 2000's. It was pretty cool back then as you had a lot of top snooker players moving over. It was like later watching the move from pride to ufc.

I barely play at all now but it bugged me to see that many pool halls started to eliminate regulation size tables for coin op.

I was referring to pocket billiards as opposed to 3 cushion billiards or snooker.

I play all the games (8 ball, 9 ball, and 10 ball, even straight pool on a big table) and I think that 10 ball is the hardest to get consistent at simply because it's a call pocket game whereas 9 ball is slop.

I think 8 ball is tougher than 9 ball though simply because of the slop factor.

My father excelled at anything that required an aim. Set records on the shooting range while in the Army, carried a 200+ bowling average, was in spring training with the old Washington Senators as a pitcher before a torn rotator ended his baseball hopes, and lastly played pool well enough to have been a pro. He learned to play traditional billiards with no pockets first and as a result was a master with the angles/banks and use of english.

His preferred game was straight pool, we used to play to 100 and he would spot me 75 balls and still kick my ass. Several times he broke and ran all 100 balls.

Obviously me, the old man was a bit of a health nut. Worked out religiously until the day he died.

I make a Jalapeno Popper Pizza that is now my best seller. Cream Cheese, mozz, jack and cheddar, fresh roasted jalapenos, a shit ton of bacon and ranch seasoned breadcrumbs on top! Amazing how many we sold on 4/20!
