I have had a Paypal account for 15 years and yesterday got this notice:



Called them and spoke with a supervisor. They did not give a reason and said I am banned for life. Cocksuckers!

I did do a few larger transfers to another Paypal user over the past few months that I suspect were the reason. I emailed executiveoffice@paypal.com and pleaded my case today but no response yet.

Can you open a new one using a different bank account? Any ideas or thoughts on the best way to get it unbanned or open a new one.

Don't bother e-mailing them. They don't ever reverse these decisions.

This type of ban is one I haven't seen before. The ones I've seen are called "restrictions", where you aren't technically banned, but you can't do anything on there, so you're effectively banned.

I know that when you're "restricted", you actually ARE allowed to create new accounts with a new bank account, credit card, and e-mail. So in that case, they're banning your account, and not you.

In this case, I'm not sure, but the line reading, "Any bank account or credit card linked to this account cannot be removed, nor can it be used to create a new account" seems to imply that, YES, you can create a new account as long as you use new bank/credit card info. Otherwise, that's really weird language. Why not just say you cannot create a new account under any circumstances?

Regarding any balance you have stuck there, you can probably still refund people for recent money sent to you.

So you can just refund trusted people and then have them pay you another way.

For example, let's say my balance was $102 and my account got banned/restricted. Well, I think back to it, and I realize that Brandon sent me $100 last week. I could refund him the $100, he would immediately receive it back, and my balance would only be $2. Then Brandon would give me back the $100 separately, outside of PayPal. This way I would only be waiting on $2 for those 180 days. So look at your transactions and strategically refund people based upon the amounts (provided you trust them).

For another example, say your balance is $310 and you identify 7 recent transactions with these trusted people:

Mike $50
Joe $80
Joe $40
Mark $97
Greg $15
David $200
Tony $50

So you look at the above and see how you can add these to closest to $310 without going over.

The best way here would be:

David $200
Tony $50
Joe $40
Greg $15

This totals $305, so you could do the above refunds and only have $5 you have to wait for.

Of course, you need to be sure David, Tony, Joe, and Greg will really pay you back outside of Paypal.

Luckily I usually keep my balance at $0 and only use it for subscription type payments or purchases because Paypal is good at refunding the buyer for digital products if there is a problem with that. The supervisor said If I opened a new account eventually the would catch it and shut it off. I figure if I keep the balance at $0 then I have nothing to lose anyway. Still sucks, I didn't realize how handy Paypal was and how much I used it until it was gone.

Nothing to do with Poker or gambling. I "think" what it was is one of the people I transferred a large amount to had his Paypal account frozen by creditors that he owes money to. So since I was "linked" to him with a large transfer I am not a security threat.

What did you do to resolve your Paypal issue? Open a new account (if so what precautionary steps did you take) or just use a relatives account?
